ZAMN is still a fine game on the Genesis and I like that the neighbor radar is on the screen at all times but if you have to go with one version, go with the SNES one.
Honestly though it's still fun and not terrible.

Is
any Genesis game as good as its SNES counterpart?

Lion King, NBA Jam, WWF Royal Rumble, Ghouls N Ghosts, Ballz3D just to name a few. Zombies Ate My Neighbors is not one of them.
Also the first Earthworm Jim, the Strike series, pretty much any sports game, Thunder Force III/Thunder Spirits, and King of the Monsters 2 (making it a straight up wrestling game was a good move in my opinion anyway).
Street Fighter II: SCE is still my favorite SFII home port of the era. It's the one I grew up with and I love the Sega controller for it. This one is just personal preference though. Super SFII is however ass on the Genesis compared to the SNES.
A few of the SNK fighters are debatable due to different concessions that were made in both versions but all are kind of crap compared to the Neo Geo anyway. Your personal tastes and nostalgia miles may vary.
There are also a few that are pretty much identical. Battletech comes to mind. Phantom 2040 isn't much different either and in a way I kind of prefer the slightly grittier color palette in that game.
Also while not the same game I unquestionably prefer Mega Turrican over Super Turrican (and Super Turrican 2 but that's a way different game).
