I don't think we WANT it to be a massive community. The masses tend to dumb things down (or heat things up).Gunstar Green wrote:Racketboy isn't a massive community, but that's fine. There's enough of those for gaming and most of them are awful even if they have their uses.

I agree. If I wanted to be a part of a massive "community" (I am not sure the term "community" applies to some of the largest gaming message boards), then I would post on GameFAQs or IGN.racketboy wrote:I don't think we WANT it to be a massive community. I like this site because it has: (1) great content; (2) a community that generally consists of well-mannered, intelligent adults from various backgrounds; and (3) engaging, fun discussions.

haha for real, i'm genuinely regretful i didn't join sooner. it's not often you have a place with good people + nearly as informative; again i used the main page's recommendations/guides for years now, but there's so much more detailed ones here in the forums proper. i'd say this is the best non-system specific forum i've been on for both community & usefulness.

Don't most message boards get slow in the summer? People are on break, vacation, spending more time outside, family reunions, visitations etc.
Maybe this place is different, but generally on most places I post- Summer= go outside, Winter= stay inside and post like crazy, cuz fuck cold weather.
Or... maybe something MUCH more sinister is afoot!?

Re: The State of Racketboy?
The hobby has become much, much more mainstream, accessible without the use of dedicated sites like RB, playable without original hardware, and most importantly, expensive. A lot of information that once could only be found on dedicated fan sites such as this can now be found on gaming journalism sites, Reddit and 4chan, and even in regular journalism.
Time always takes it's toll. We've been around for 9 years this year. No one sticks around forever.
I feel like over the last two or three years the userbase as a whole had become less tolerant of differing views on anything that isn't completely arbitrary like "which was better: FF6 or 7?"

What information is now easily accessible? I never came here for the inside scoop. I always came here for the enjoyable conversation and to enthuse about games. Now yes, there are people out there who are less tolerant of others and try to hold onto their knowledge as if it is something special that only they can hold and everyone else is inferior in some way, but overall, I feel the majority of people here in this community in particular lack that superiority complex.BoringSupreez wrote:The hobby has become much, much more mainstream, accessible without the use of dedicated sites like RB, playable without original hardware, and most importantly, expensive.
