Yeah region locking is mostly to protect the japanese market and retailers from consumers importing from the US.

I don't generally like doing this, but...Retronomy wrote:Rev you insight negative response like popular rappers insight "haters". You should consider writing for my website, I could use the publicity.
It's spelled "incite."

Your particular spelling of it just bugs me for some reason.

Right. Most of us already know why it is done from a economics perspective, the discussion was to respond that it isn't a universally held belief that all consumers want region-free consoles.Jmustang1968 wrote:Yeah region locking is mostly to protect the japanese market and retailers from consumers importing from the US.

Now that I don't have a sandwich in hand, I can type this properly.AppleQueso wrote:damn man even SamuraiMegas thinks you're nuts
What I've learned from this thread:
1: TheRev is a Schizophrenic conspiracy theorist
2: Is extremely hostile (well, I already knew that.)
3: Dislikes good points against his beliefs.

I just can't see as a consumer of games, you would want more restrictions. I don't even import often because of the games I typically play are text/dialogue heavy. I dont see any trend of less games coming over due to region free consoles. I think they just try to project which games will sell enough to warrant the risk of localization cost. All the SNES games, and Saturn games that didnt come over spring to mind.mjmjr25 wrote:Right. Even with region locking, there's plenty of examples of games that are 100 percent identical across all regions.

Like I said, I enjoy the hunt, the discovery, the workarounds (mods), the exposure. Most people seem to want more / faster / now. That isn't me. It's like proverbial depressed lottery winner or bored retiree. Probably not the best analogy, but the underlying point is there. Seems a silly thing (to me) to complain about.
