A video game is considered retro when there are children 12 years old that don't know what it is.

I don't know I had a patient a few days ago who was born in 1996 and we talked a great deal about the N64. I was surprised he must of been just a few months old when that system came out, but he still had his N64 and still plays it.

I'm careful to never use the word "retro" when asking people about video games at garage sales and flea markets. That word, from my experience anyway, seems to be the catalyst that pushes the perceived value of any random game from $5 to $15. There's a guy at my local flea market that actually uses the phrase "it's retro" to avoid giving any deals to his customers.
I guess what I'm saying is that, IMHO, it really doesn't matter what's considered retro. Collect and play as you see fit.
