Sorry but the book was boring. What I said, not counting the movie/book comparison, is absolutely true about the book.
edit: Oh and I forgot to mention, Starship Troopers was better when it was called The Forever War.
Why World War Z is the most insulting movie of the year

Wait, wait, a book was better when it was written nearly 20 years later?indecks wrote:Sorry but the book was boring. What I said, not counting the movie/book comparison, is absolutely true about the book.

You missed the snark of my comment. The Forever War is a much better book. It's what Starship Troopers could and *should* have been.

And it most likely would not have existed without it.indecks wrote:Ack wrote:Wait, wait, a book was better when it was written nearly 20 years later?indecks wrote:Sorry but the book was boring. What I said, not counting the movie/book comparison, is absolutely true about the book.

By that logic no sci-fi would exist without John Carter. Troopers may have inspired Haldeman to write The Forever War, sure. It doesn't mean Troopers is good.Ack wrote:

I can't speak of it's sequels, as I haven't read them, but The Forever War was way better than Starship Troopers. Leagues better.
Re: Why World War Z is the most insulting movie of the year
I've been watching STARSHIP TROOPERS the wrong way my entire life.

I dont think there is a right way to watch that crapfest.Luke wrote:I've been watching STARSHIP TROOPERS the wrong way my entire life.
Best way to experience the novel, though, is to read something else.

^I watched CON AIR the wrong way the first two times I saw it. Maybe I'll come around one day and see the brilliance in SST.
Re: Why World War Z is the most insulting movie of the year
Actually, science fiction dates as far back as the Greeks. But yes, Starship Troopers was praised highly upon release for offering a militarized vision of humanity's far future that hadn't really been focused on before. Now I can't say about how it was written, because I haven't read it in years (I have read other Heinlein works recently and have no complaints). But its influence on the genre was massive.indecks wrote:By that logic no sci-fi would exist without John Carter. Troopers may have inspired Haldeman to write The Forever War, sure. Oh, and for the record, the best way to watch the first Starship Troopers film is as an experiment in propaganda. Don't watch the sequels. Don't ever watch the sequels.
