Man, I agree, it's hard to say anything worse than what actually happened. What can top ruining Tetris and giving Bomberman a gritty reboot?

Take any adventure game and make it as realistic as possible - including having stop for bathroom breaks (maybe a wiping mini-game?)

If Mega Man Soccer and Mega Man X7 didn't kill the series, then nothing probably will.

Add a sprint stamina bar to Sonic the Hedgehog so that he has to stop and catch his breath every few seconds.

Add checkpoints and timed missions to Skyrim so you don't have time to explore.

Sign up for an account with your credit card in a new Mario Kart where you can now buy red turtle shells whenever you want them.

Allow interchangeable costumes in Street Fighter so that we occasionally have to see Zangief in Cammi's thonged one-piece.

God of War dating sim. Help Kratos get back in the dating game after his wife died at his own hands.

Zombie Super Mario.

The best part of that is now we have a game with mushroom zombies, and some folks are claiming it to be the best game of the current console generation.
