Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Wii U/3DS
Re: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Wii U/3DS
I use long sword. I also have kept upgrading a few dual blades trees because I like that weapon best... But I find long sword more useful overall. So I have 3 different long swords I am upgrading whenever possible. My current one does quite a bit of slime damage. And I upgrade a light bowgun as well. And plan on getting a regular bow. The problem with range weapons is how poor the circle pads are for aiming.

Another dual blades lover here. I haven't even tried the ranged weapons yet...

Yeah I switch between the dual blades for pure damage if I know I can get in close and mash away. Longsword when I need to get sporadic attacks in without getting stuck into long animation loops.

I've been going switch axe this time. Used lance in Tri, then great sword in Freedom Unite. My plan is to try a different weapon each game I guess, keep things fresh.
I've been enjoying this game so far. Can't wait until a few days from now when I have time to really pour into it.

Got this on 3DS.
I wish there was a "I beat Tri, let me skip the 1-star missions" option.

Beat 2-star missions and working through 3-star.
I'm probably about to fight Royal Ludroth next. Gotta get a Circle Pad Pro XL sometime.
edit: And I just noticed that they took away the bowgun customization. That sucks. I liked selecting my own parts and making custom builds.

Alright. Got a circle pad pro LL. I'm ready to tackle Gobul now. Swimming is so much better now.

Re: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Wii U/3DS
I sold my WiiU copy and bought a 3DS copy instead. I like the game much better on the little big system. Sans the more awkward controls, everything just feels a bit better. The framerate doesn't stutter from its silky 60fps so that headache inducing problem is gone. The controls seem a bit tighter even if the camera control is much worse. It's nice to close the system and come back at any time, especially considering how time consuming the game is. The graphics seem really nice on the smaller, lower resolution screen. I don't mind the loss of online play. It didn't work all that well on WiiU and, though I can totally see why a lot of people say online is a must for them, it just isn't for me in this game. A bit strange since the whole reason I chose the WiiU version in the first place was because I thought the online play sounded nifty.

Local wireless play on 3DS is great.

Re: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Wii U/3DS
So, I'm very interested in getting some version of Monster Hunter 3. But I don't know which version.
I have a Wii with a pro controller, and I have a 3DS XL.
Now I don't have the circle pad thing yet. I know they make some that fit on the XL, but those are only made in Japan. Will they work on a NA 3DS XL? Also, if the Wii U version is vastly and definitely the best version I might be persuaded to wait and buy a Wii U for that.
Also price is a factor. At the moment the Wii version is only $18. While the 3DS version is $33. And then with buying a circle pad pro that would be an additional $30 or so.
