Franchises you want Nintendo to bring back.

Does it really matter when it came out (within reason) or if it is console or handheld? If it didnt make a splash, it didnt make a splash.Stark wrote:That came out like forever ago and for a handheld, how about a new IP for a console?
The Battalion Wars Series are great third person shooters but got very little love. And while they are a spinoff of the Nintendo Wars series, they are completely different.
Odama was an excellent original idea that only got press because of how bizarre it was. Also, pretty much anything made by Skip LTD is underappreciated - sans Wii Play: Motion and Captain Rainbow (the latter solely for its craziness).
Re: Franchises you want Nintendo to bring back.
That's why they got very little love. The world doesn't need yet another third person shooter. The world does need more turn based strategy games. Those of us who played Advance Wars were put off by the gameplay. And those who didn't play Advance Wars had no reason to choose Batallion Wars over other shooters.fastbilly1 wrote:The Battalion Wars Series are great third person shooters but got very little love. Me too. I still love how different that one was from the other Mario games. It's probably my second favorite Mario game after SMB 3. I'd rather play Doki Doki Panic again than Super Mario World.BurningDoom wrote:I'd jump on that bandwagon.SteveyMajors wrote:Agreed. I have said it before and I will say it again...I want another round with Wart, Mouser, Birdo, and Triclyde.
Another Eternal Darkness game would be amazing. If they brought back the fun melee combat system and magic system with a few tweaks, as well as really merge the insanity effects into the story line to make you unsure of what's real, and unsure about the main character's own sanity. They could make a really surreal and disturbing game that fucks with your head. That, plus the Lovecraft story elements. It could blow away everything else in the survival horror genre right nowStark wrote:Agreed. Silicon Knights is having issues though, I wonder if we'll ever get another game from them?Crabmaster2000 wrote:Also forgot to mention that I'd go nuts over something in the vein of Eternal Darkness. That would rock.

At the time of release, they were unlike other Third Person Shooters in that they allowed control of a multitude of vehicles and extensive squad command. Dont get me wrong, I have completed almost every Nintendo Wars title, starting with Famicom Wars a very long time ago, but I had a ball playing through Battalion Wars. I wish they had allowed for the controls of the first game in the second game. Coop/VS Battalion Wars, with better controls, would have been played alot at my house.Hatta wrote:That's why they got very little love. The world doesn't need yet another third person shooter. Well it's not like there's a lot of competition these days.Gamerforlife wrote:It could blow away everything else in the survival horror genre right now

However, I think even back then when the genre was good Eternal Darkness stood out because it didn't have to "cheat" to provide an unnerving experience the way other survival horror games did. By that I mean that it didn't have to artificially restrict the gameplay. While Resident Evil was giving you these awkward characters who moved like tanks rather than people and couldn't really do anything effective beyond running away from things, Eternal Darkness gave you characters who could effectively defend themselves with melee, guns, and magic spells, and still run if necessary. It was just stronger in the game play department than its peers.
I think that would make it stand out today as well if they brought the series back. It's fun to think of ways they could re-incorporate that awesome magic spell system and find ways to make the melee fun. Like if you had to fight zombie like creatures with just a machete or fire axe and had to strategically cut off their limbs and couldn't kill them unless you decapitated them. Then as things get more intense and more and more of them are coming at you, you discover a shotgun and get to cut loose, but only have a limited number of shells at your disposal. The magic could come into play later in the game as you start facing more fierce, fast and dangerous enemies, as well as being integral to puzzle solving, much like the first game.
With so many gameplay elements, you could do some awesome things with an Eternal Darkness game compared to stuff like Dead Space and Resident Evil 5, which are nothing more than pointing and shooting at things all day

I thought Pushmo was vastly overrated. It was a really average, and repetitive puzzle game

Re: Franchises you want Nintendo to bring back.
People equally ignored other great new nintendo IPs back when too though. Drill dozer, Chibi-Robo, Art Style, Doshin the Giant, Cubivore, Another Code/Trace Memory, Hotel Dusk, Magical Starsign, Starfy, Kururin, - all pretty much ignored in the west.
Even games which did get sequels often didn't get them outside of japan due to poor sales, or in some cases did, but the developer went under due to continuing poor sales (as is the case with Cing).
If new traditional IPs such as these haven't been selling well for Nintendo, it doesn't surprise me that so many of their newer IPs are lifestyle games like Brain Age, Big Brain Academy, Wii Fit and Art Academy. Those games sell, so those are what they're gonna make.
