Well, I already have a WiiU and PS4 (on the way). And while I was thinking of eventually getting an Xbox One, maybe I'll get a Steam Machine instead. We'll see!

Well considering I have a laptop capable of playing KoF XIII, this shouldn't be too hard to get the badge.. What is the deadline?

The fact that this is a pc that hooks up to the TV worries me. Will it get outdated and need upgraded as often as a PC or will it have the longevity of a console?

There's going to be multiple configurations. Steam Machines is a name that makes sense, because they're Steam compatible machines. It sounds much more like a video game hardware standard for PC hardware than anything else, with an open source games driven operating system.

That's the way to go in an open environment.

But they explicitly said there will be varying boxes of varying abilities. I'm not sure if they have a way to categorize their abilities, though. I would imagine they do.

They also claim that you can modify them. So. Chances are it'll be easy (eventually) to update the boxes without buying an entirely new one. But we'll see.

The 300 prototype units will ship with the following components:

CPU: some boxes with Intel i7-4770, some i5-4570, and some i3
RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600 (CPU), 3GB GDDR5 (GPU)
Storage: 1TB/8GB Hybrid SSHD
Power Supply: Internal 450w 80Plus Gold
Dimensions: approx. 12 x 12.4 x 2.9 in high

By those dimensions, it should be smaller than a dvr with a horizontally mounted GPU.

I just got all the badges today... I bet everyone and their mother is hoping to win the i7 4770k/Titan model.. LOL!! That's better than my PC that runs GTX 780..

But how the hell will this fit a Titan GPU?
