Re: What Game Consoles/Handhelds Do You Own? Which Do You Wa
I don't own many consoles and only 1 handheld. I've had more than listed here in the past, but have traded them around, so now I own:
NES (of course.)
Nintendo 64 (the console I grew up playing.)
Atari 2600 (the Junior Rainbow model; it's probably my least favorite of what I have.)
Gameboy Sp (but I only play original gameboy games, there's something about most Gameboy Advance games I just don't like as much.)
What I have owned in the past:
Playstation 2 (whichever slim model was out in 2007-ish)
Playstation 1 (the grey model, not the white one.)
Gamecube
SNES
Nintendo DS Lite
PSP (1001 model)
Want:
Colecovision (I know that these break easily, but I'd much rather have a Colecovision than an Atari 2600, besides some models of Colecovision can play 2600 games)
Sega Dreamcast (I want one so bad, but after my sister's Dreamcast had its laser malfunction, I've been wary about getting one. I've heard that laser problems are common for DC's.)
Sega Genesis and SNES (Honestly, I think I want the Genesis slightly more than the SNES.)
Vectrex (I had a Vectrex emulator on my PSP, and I loved the games. This is another really old one that I'd rather have than a 2600.)
Atari 5200 (maybe, if I could ever find one that won't malfunction.)
NES Toploader (just because it's cool, and has a better loading mechanism thingy.)
NeoGeo (It seems like such a fascinating console. I don't think the model matters much to me.)

Re: What Game Consoles/Handhelds Do You Own? Which Do You Wa
^ By "Neo Geo" do you mean an AES? Japanese models (like the one I have) are much cheaper, but all games (even NA ones) will play with Japanese text. Thankfully most Neo Geo games don't have much text in the first place.

Yeah... I have like 30(-ish?) consoles but only have space to keep four or so hooked up at a time. Before bed I usually unplug the surge protector they're all plugged into. I loose power here frequently (especially in winter when trees tend to fall on power lines) and I don't want to risk losing a console in some freak electrical surge accident.
The sad part is, I actually did have the DVD and TV plugged into a surge protector, and they still croaked. The VHS and stereo survived, though. Go figure.
I'm just glad it happened right after we'd moved. I hadn't had time yet to organize the consoles, so none of them were plugged in, and they were spared Zeus' wrath. Dad's Coca-Cola clock in the garage was not so fortunate.
Breetai wrote:Same here, actually. Well, I keep a lot of AC adapters plugged in, and the consoles sit on a shelf. I guess the AC adapters would get fried if lightning struck, but at least the main systems would be fine.
With lightening, nothing is safe. I don't even keep things connected to the TV anymore just in case the surge travels. I'm a paranoid individual.

Why take the risk of stuff getting damaged if you can avert it?
So I reckon that's not really a case of paranoia on your part, more like a wise move.

How old was it and did it have a life indicator? The surge protection bit inside wears out after a few years and then it will just be a socket splitter. If there was no protection indicator light and it was more than 4 or 5 years old, it was probably not protecting anymore.

Vectrex
Handhelds I'd like to get:
Gray Brick GameBoy ... I never had one

GameBoy Advance Micro (It's actually pretty awesome)
DSi (better battery, brighter screen, lighter, matte finish)
PS Vita (Eventually ...)
GameGear and Sega Nomad

What I still want:
Not sure on this one but probably all the obscure stuff like an FM Towns Marty, Bandai Pippin, Sega SG-1000, and a Pioneer LaserActive with at least the Sega game module.
After that I'll be pretty much done.
Haha mid-way through last year I said to my wife, "Once I get a Neo Geo CD and WonderSwan Color I'm done!"
Now I've managed to think of like 10 other consoles I'd also like to collect for.

I hear you. lol
but in my case, what else could I be interested in?
Unless I go on Wikipedia or some such and literally go through the list one-by-one from 1st gen systems right up to the present. Oh wait......I've already done that! lol
No, that'll be me done after those last few. I can't see myself going all "lukemorse" and unearthing weird and wonderful shit that even most gaming folk have never heard of.
