That doesn't make you picky. That makes you a PC gamer.

"Ease"
That's ironic.

Have you ever played Rush'n Attack? I mean actually kind of liked this game, it made me think of Commando or Gunsmoke (or Ikari Warriors or maybe King's Knight- Time Soldiers is silly enough to compare it to King's Knight). Rush'n Attack is a sidescroller! Anyways, Time Soldiers was pretty fun. Obviously not on the level of the arcade original, though.
Bomber Raid
Decent little 1942 clone- and it gets bonus points for not being a port ;) everything about it is totally decent, except when I say the name aloud it sounds like some kind of 1990's "eXtreem" brand of Kool Aid.
Scramble Spirits
Another game that I might as well just play in MAME, but it's still entertaining. If I were to start collecting for SMS I would pay a few bucks for it. I think, though, I'm going to avoid spending much time on ports from here-on-out, unless there's something truly special about them.
Astro Warrior
This one I really like a lot. It's an SMS original, it's not neccesarily original gameplay but it has solid controls, I like the timing of the enemies, and I like the music.
Wonderboy III The Dragon's Trap

Soooo I made a mistake earlier: this was actually the Wonderboy game that gave me the reaction I initially had to the series. I just went back to play the first Wonderboy game- and ya'll weren't freaking kidding that it was Adventure Island! I gave this another try, anyways, and yeah, same reaction as before.

This one is kinda interesting, actually- bit of a combination of Mega Man and Shinobi. That is to say, you can charge your attack (a mechanic which I always like) and the enemies drop random little pellets.

Unfortunately, this is another SMS game where the protagonist feels like he's wading hip deep in water as he tries to run.

The thing that really bothers me about all of the games that have this feel is that they always seem to insist on making their characters legs move really fast. I know, I know, this isn't a legitimate gameplay complaint and it's an issue with art direction, but still. I find it incredibly distracting when a characters movement doesn't match up with their speed at all.
Cloud Master
Am... am I being attacked by bowls of soup? And racist Chinese stereotypes? OK, this is pretty entertaining, if not necessarily an awesome game. I might not play this much, but I might have to whip it out next time I'm drinking with buddies
Fantasy Zone (and II)
What the HELL. To quote Captain Murphy, "it's like a koala bear crapped a rainbow in my brain"! I don't know what the hell is going on here but against every better instinct I have I like what I'm playing. :o I think I might need to try this game later under uh... some variety of chemical influence.

Next round... I'll try out Ninja Gaiden.

I'm satisfied, though- I've found a few gems that I have been really enjoying. SMS definitely isn't my ideal system, but there are some really fun games on there.

While it's been a while since I've considered myself as such, I definitely used to exclusively play PC games. I feel like this new generation of FPS games have really taken off on consoles just because KIDS THESE DAYS  didn't grow up with the awesomeness of Quake and Unreal and Half-Life and so on...

Glad you found something you enjoyed Yancakes!

I did misspeak about Rush'n Attack. I was thinking Time Soldiers felt more like Heavy Barrel. Astro Warrior is probably my favorite SMS game of all time, probably for sentimental value and that it still holds my attention when I play it today. Also check out the cover art of Bomber Raid next time..it makes no sense. It has an SR-71 Blackbird (The high altitude surveillance craft) dropping bombs. Pay no heed that the in-game plane looks nothing like the blackbird.

And yes, Cloud Master seems to be a bit on the stereotypical end of things.

Galaxy Force
This game gave me a headache.
I haven't played it myself, but from what I saw it doesn't appear to be a very good version. Your best bet is to play the Sega Ages version of Galaxy Force II either on the Sega Saturn or the PlayStation 2. Galaxy Force II is an updated version of Galaxy Force as opposed to the sequel. Think of it as Galaxy Force 2.0. :D

Whoa! That is some scandalous ass shit. I can forgive the rest (actually I'll probably forgive this too) but dang.
OK, I've always liked the main theme from Sonic, but the stage music I've never been able to get in to. But Sonic falls squarely into the style of games that I've NEVER been able to get in to.
I've never really liked the music in Nintendo games, so I can sort of understand not liking the music in Sonic games. (Although I do have to question your sanity, slightly. It's obligatory.) I've just never heard anyone use the term "annoying" to describe the Sonic soundtracks before.
Incidentally, the main theme is one of my least favorite tracks from any Sonic game, so I think we're just on the opposite ends of the spectrum on this one. :P

noise already recommended my favorite two games on the system: Phantasy Star and Ys: The Vanished Omens.

Golden Axe Warrior is awesome, but expensive as hell - so emulate that shit.

Let me level with ya Mr. Cakes - don't expect the Master System to be a Sega "equivalent" to the NES. The overall game library is vastly inferior.

Has anyone mentioned Shinobi yet? A great ninja sidescroller.

Also, the SMS version of R-Type is pretty sweet.

Well, your least favorite genre happens to be my favorite, but my thoughts:

Zillion 2 is supposedly a lot different than the first. I've only played the 2nd though, so I don't know. It's fun but I haven't gotten far.

Definitely Shinobi.

I love Cloud Master.

The Master System Sonic games are completely different from the genesis ones. I read an article from someone about why Sonic 1 for master system is actually superior to the genesis version. Not sure I agree but. . .

Alien Syndrome?
