cant really remember. There's always been a 2600 around the house and I was only born in '86, so that's fairly retro. even after that i was always 1 generation behind with consoles until I got my Playstation.
Re: At what age did you become a retro gamer?
I do not know if I ever became a retrogamer or just transitioned into when certain games became retro. I guess buying NES games at Funcoland in the mid 90's could be considered that point.
Re: At what age did you become a retro gamer?
I'm in my mid 30s, so I grew up through much of the eras in gaming, and never really got tired of past generations of stuff. Sure, I'd hop on new systems as they came out but that didn't stop me from going back to the ol' Apple IIe or NES or whatever. I still enjoyed the games, and I like returning to them even today. So I guess I was always a bit of a retro gamer in that I like to keep on playing games that I think are fun regardless of how old they are.
Re: At what age did you become a retro gamer?
At this point I've been gaming for 30 years. I've owned at least one system from every generation of console except the first. I've started filling in gaps in systems and games I've wanted over the years, but I don't really have the desire to be a completist.

How old are you mate?
I turned 14 last August.
Nice

My story isn't really that elaborate; I got an Nintendo 64 for my 9th birthday (so, about '05, when the 6th generation was ending). I fueled my gaming habits with used gamestop carts up until 2006, when my local one stopped carrying them. I turned online, and found amazon and a parents with a credit card willing to pay for me. This lasted up until early 2008, when I found out about Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and decided I needed a Wii. So I spent a couple months saving up, and when I finally walked into gamestop again (after two years, mind you), I walked out with both my desired Wii, and a used copy of Brawl. This cycle of buying just Wii, GC, and N64 games went on until I discovered this site sometime in 2011. Finally, some nerds that thought the way I did (game playing/collecting is fun!)! This lead to me buying my Super Nes, Dreamcast, and Playstation 2, which is where I am today, which is trying to make up my mind whether I should get a Genesis (cheap/sturdy games), Saturn (interests me), or a Playstation 3 (to catch up on the last 6-7 years I missed with my only current-gen console being a Wii).
Huh, guess my story is kind of elaborate when I think about it. Or maybe I just talk too much.

when I was 5, I got an NES, and entered kindergarten that same year.
throughout my school years I also got a snes, genesis, and game boy.
in high school I got a psx and saturn, but I also got a family computer where I learned about emulators and continued to play older games.
in college I got a PS2, but I also had a personal computer now, and kept playing the classics on emulators.
while in college, the PSP came out, and it soon after got hacked so I can play all my classics on the go!
then I graduated college, started working, made enough money to buy a 360 and PS3, but more importantly also made enough money to finally buy old games as well as an old TV to play them with my old systems!
these days I continue to pick up and play old 8 and 16 bit games whenever I discover new ones that I want to play.
so I dont kno when I became a retro gamer, I jus kno that I've always liked to play the same games!

Re: At what age did you become a retro gamer?
Summer 2004 (so when I was 17), when I decided that even though I had an Xbox, Cube and PS2, I'd rather go back and play Shenmue and Power Stone 2 on the Dreamcast. So I went back and started collecting Dreamcast games. It was at a time when the games weren't quite retro and so were going for next to nothing.
I've always been fond of the N64 and Dreamcast the most as I grew up with them, and so I always find myself going back to them, or buying magazines for them. I'm financially broke at the moment with my baby and bills crippling me, so I'm selling my Wii stuff and after picking up a bundle of N64 magazines on the cheap, I'm going to pretend it is 1998 again, and start with Mario 64, go through the N64 catalog one game at a time
