wclem wrote:It all simply comes down to the look what I have that you cannot so I am better that you attitude. I see so many people say "look what I bought" and everyone ooh and ahh at it. So what you have more money than someone else so you can buy it. I buy my movies, my games and all my other shit so I am better than you because I have more stuff. IT is a screwed up logic that people who have never done without, gone hungry, saw there utilities shut off or any other bad thing, have.
Maybe that was directed at me as I made the comment about owning a lot of music, maybe it was a generic blanket statement. You have posted your complete
N64 cart collection and have a
game room thread. You're obviously proud of your collection, and that's just fine, but this for others to ooh and aah about it when you get right down to it.
Note that while I have posted pictures of subsets of my collection like pinball stuff and whatnot on a few occasions, I do not have a game room thread. I don't have the biggest collection, but it is good sized after having been collected for a long time. I don't post it because a lot lives in boxes, I don't want to seem like I'm bragging, and for other reasons.
I swear a few of you middle class yuppy want to be's need to go down to the real ghetto and see how people live. I am sick of people ripping people who cannot afford the luxuries we all take for granted. So if the dad trying to support his family while working 60 hours a week at two dead end jobs for minimum wage wants to bootleg a Disney movie so his less fortunate kids can enjoy something the rich little kid down the road dont even appreciate then so be it. (terrible sentence structure LOL)
Luxuries are extra. That being said, even if you couldn't afford a rental to watch a specific movie, there is still normal broadcast TV which is readily available. Libraries often have video media that can be checked out for free. People are giving away (or selling cheap) old CRTs, VCRs, and VHS tapes all the time.
I feel most of you have never really struggled and never understood going to bed hungry, or a christmas or birthday going by giftless or not even mentioned. Deprived of nutrition, proper medical care or any standard of life that we all deserve.
I have admittedly never gone to bed hungry, but I don't ask for gifts and I don't remind people that my birthday is coming up. I hate the social obligations that go along with them and the expecations that some people feel on those days. In fact my birthday just passed. I didn't remind anyone. I handful of people knew and said something, and that's fine. I wasn't expecting or hoping for a big fanfare.
As for medical care, I am currently going through a big dental mess because I went through a period where I didn't have medical insurance and had a crappy paying job and it has caught up with me. Thankfully my other bills were under control but I did rely on some help and I still owe some big favors from that period of time. Right now it is going to cost me a lot to fix things. But again, I'm alive and fairly healthy, so it's ok.
So as these rich people cry the blues because they didnt make enough millions while they pay people shit, then let em cry. Obviously torrents are not hurting them that bad, because I dont see all of the movie studios or recording studios shutting there doors. Metallica my only make 98 million instead of 100, aww poor guys.
Before I go off the deeper end, what I am trying to say is that you need to look at this from another perspective, not just your own.
Potential big evil entity or not, let's make you the high roller compared to someone who is living under an overpass with the clothes on their back. Let's say you go through $100 cash in a month on things like parking, occasional road tolls, sodas, random food, tips, whatever. If this person kept jimmying the lock on your car (but not breaking the window) and stealing $2 of change every month, you'd be pretty annoyed.
Mr Lennon: no greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man.....
Just think where the arts would be if the above were true. How much is not put out because someone decided it would not make enough money.
Sharing the arts is great, but there's quite a difference between a busker who shares and hopes that people are entertained enough to contribute something back as opposed to TV shows and such that are created by a great many people who are also working to support themselves too.
