I can't stand it when people say "RPG". Come on people, how hard is it to say "role-playing game"?

Umm, plenty of people call it, "table top rpg"

It being abbreviated does not change the meaning. The games drew their system from pen n paper, and thus were named after them.

What an odd thread.

I have no issue with Super Mario Bros. being titled Super Mario Bros.

Shmups, and Bmups help distinguish and clarify a genre, just like some movies are called romcoms.

...and how hard is it for people to say "massively multiplayer online role-playing game" instead of MMORPG. For real.

I usually spell it without the C, a carry over from the way it was labeled many years ago.
But that is Atari's cutesy way to spell it for their specific product. I imagine there's probably a little ® next to it on there. It is marketing being cute like Turbografx or the iPAQ.

TRAKBALL stuck with me, I guess because Atari had such a dominance on the cue ball controller in its day with the arcades and home units. Its just like SKILSAW made by SKIL took such a hold, Circular Saw or shortened Circ Saw is the correct name.

Surprised PSX versus PS1 and PSOne has not been brought up again. :D

@ bj79 - Thanks for renaming your Thread, this has really taken off.

Yes I know some are abbreviations and some are acronyms, we seem to be using both in this thread.
