Nah see Key-Glyph and I are on the same page. The guys in the bubbles even twitch every now and then, at least in the older games.

The sad thing is that I honestly have to keep myself from overthinking this stuff or I wind up feeling bad -- especially if a game has a cutesy aesthetic. As a kid I came up with an alternate explanation for what happens when you nuke your Lemmings (they're just teleporting! With confetti! Yaaay!), and I occasionally feel uncomfortable competing against NPCs in puzzle games if they make particularly pitiful faces when they're losing. Case in point, Puzzle Bobble for X-Box Live is difficult for me to play against the computer. And then there's the conundrum that is Pokémon.
