Re: Neo Geo Pocket Color Game Recommendations
actually, here's a good topic: how many NGPC games have spiritual sequels on DS? For instance, there's a SNK Vs Capcom Card Fighters Clash game on DS, and obviously a Bust-A-Move. Though I'm not sure I'd call Metal Slug 7 a follow-up to 1st/2nd Mission... hmm.

I'd say Metal Slug Advance would be the direct spiritual sequel to 2nd Mission.

I'm going to disagree with BD on this one and say "hope it's a really bright reading lamp." Maybe my eyes just suck, but I found that unless I had a really good overhead light above me, and held the screen at just-the-right angle, the lack of backlight always bummed me out about an otherwise perfect handheld.
I'll go somewhere in the middle. Its easily the brightest non-backlit handheld I've known, and it's easy to see in at least reasonable light conditions.
Just a reading lamp might not quite cut it though.

It would have been awesome if the screen was back-lit. I guess though they figured they didn't want to impact too much on the battery life.
The next best thing to an non-modded NGPC regarding the lighting issue probably might be this,

Got it from evilbay a while back. It wasn't the easiest gadget for me to find. It works pretty well. Obviously it's no substitute for the real thing.

That's certainly an interesting item, Thierry. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.
I got my NGPC last night in the mail, but I didn't have the necessary batteries on hand. I'll hopefully get to pick those up today at some point. Several games have also arrived, and I've been playing with the buttons a bit to see how they feel. I like them, and that joystick really impresses me.

it is a super comfortable system to hold. The joystick is fantastic and the buttons are great. It's also a blast to collect for - though it honestly makes me sad that you're not going for CIB. They look so handsome on a shelf.
I'll be honest, this thread makes me want to start collecting NGPC stuff (for a third time), but I'm fighting the urge because I know that for whatever reason that's a system that I just love the allure of COLLECTING while I'd much rather play a portable system that's backlit like my 3DS.

I can give you two reasons why I'm not interested in going for a boxed collection, Noise:
1) Cardboard
2) The Last Blade
I've definitely been bitten by the bug for this thing. I've been finding myself checking eBay on a daily basis for the US titles I'm missing. There are some that are completely out of my desired range, but there are a couple I've been eyeing that I might be able to pick up for relatively cheap.

1) Yeah. If you were cool w/ imports, you'd get those beautiful snapcases though.
2) Yes. Last Blade and Feselei. I know!
But yeah, it's an easy console to get sucked into. And for weeks I did the same thing - daily eBay updates, heck I even made that US checklist/CIB priceguide we have floating around here somewhere. But I just had to stop cuz I've tried to get to a point where I'm collecting (well, hording) less right now, and only spending $ on games I'll be playing right away.
But sadly, I feel like NGPC is one of those bugs you never get rid of. Like herpes.
Re: Neo Geo Pocket Color Game Recommendations
Well, truth be told, I'm not really into handhelds. I own an original DS, but I rarely use it. So getting into the NGPC makes sense to me, since it fills a void for when I travel or visit family, especially for things like holidays. And I've got room for the smaller games(though admittedly part of the reason I don't collect boxes for things like this or the SNES is to save space).
I'm also at a point where I've got the funds to engage in things like this while still setting money aside for savings and investment. I may go for a complete US collection, or I may get to a point where I feel I'm done. But I don't mind. Gaming is a huge part of my life(media is in general), so as long as I can plan around my level of funds and limited space, I should be all right.

You're going for a complete set of carts Ack???
I generally don't go for CIB with cart based systems. Too expensive. If I ever run into a decently priced boxed NGPC game I'll certainly buy it though.
