Re: Saturn S-video cable

At one point I recall them being damn near $40-$50. Not sure if they're still that bad, as I haven't had to purchase an s-video cable in quite some time. But yeah, I recall the price being bad enough that installing the jack was comparable price and thus a better option for the reasons you named.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

Are these region specific, though?
It seems like the only RGB cables out there are the PAL scart and the NTSC-J RGB cables, so wouldn't you need to get one of the NTSC-J cables for an NA unit, etc?
What I've read of Ebay listings seems to suggest this, anyway.

NA Saturn scart cables are third party.

I've only seen Sega brand NTSC-J RGB cables for the Saturn.
Certainly not Master System with its quick death, Dreamcast is doubtful due to VGA.
Mega Drive I'm not sure.

Aha.
Sorry to jump this topic from s-video to SCART briefly, but I've been looking into this kind of set-up recently.

Would it be safe to assume that a converter such as this one:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004XS ... 01_s00_i00

would accept either SCART input, considering the product description's list of video signals, or is that more in relation to the component out?

Also, is there any trickiness with PAL 50/60 hz business and these converters on an NTSC TV?

That has European SCART wiring.

The list of video signals is referring to how resolution and sync rate are left untouched (lets you add your own upscaler of choice for 240p on HDTVs).

50hz in would remain 50hz out, needing a 50hz compatible TV.
Lum fan.
