Then what oh wise, 'professional' reviewer must one do to win over your frigid, shriveled heart? The winds of fate blow across the field, calling a young man to do what he finds enjoyable and fun, bringing joyous occasion and celebration with cheer. Breathe deep the gathering gloom, for one loves Daikatana yet despises Doom. First unboxing and a young child finds himself playing Super Mario Kart. Many try and fewer succeed by luck, but all this message says is "I don't give a flying fuck."Radical Lanzar wrote:Since you are asking for our opinion - No one on YouTube gives a good enough review. There are certain things to take into account, pitch and tone of voice, style, niche marketing, gimmicks and even facets of the game also are important. The only person I've ever seen do this is the Angry Video Game Nerd. Not only is this moron not an authority in gaming, he's an entertainer, but that doesn't stop people from copying him, frequently.
The only time I EVER see anyone get it right is during a commentary (such as unboxing), someone showing off their collection or an actual playthrough when the person playing gives some kind of trivia.
But then again, I'm a reviewer, I expect quality and not just someone else's two cents worth.
who do you think does the best reviews on youtube?

I've been an avid AVGN watcher for a while but he has been some what lack luster as of late.
This guy's vids need to be viewed. His name is Egoraptor and he has begun a series he calls "Sequelitis".
He does a great one about the classic Mega Man series compared to Mega Man X.
He definitely hits the nail on the head in turns of how game designers nowadays believe that the average gamer has half a brain and needs to be told exactly what to do.

There is a bit of cursing. Enjoy.

I stumbled upon Egoraptor's "Sequelitis" about a month ago. I have been watching his "Awesome" series from the beginning (New Grounds). Ego is ridiculously talented. I recommend watching through the "Awesome" series if you haven't done so yet. Nerd comedy gold.johnnyonthespot wrote:I've been an avid AVGN watcher for a while but he has been some what lack luster as of late.

Egoraptor and Keith Apicary are buddies IIRC. That's a testament right there.

Happy console gamer is great. He just talks and shoots the shit. Nothing special but he does allot of interesting reviews.
AVGN definitely hit his entertainment peak in 08.. seems like he doesn't even want to do Avgn anymore.

AVGN really comes across more as a movie buff than a huge gamer. If you've ever seen his movie stuff, he's definitely got more of a passion for it.Arbitern1 wrote:Happy console gamer is great. He just talks and shoots the shit. Nothing special but he does allot of interesting reviews.

that's because James Rolfe is a filmmaker. Yes, he's also a writer, director producer actor and editor, but filmmaking is what he does. It really shouldn't be surprising that he therefore is has a lot of passion for film.

Re: who do you think does the best reviews on youtube?
I find myself watching Zero Punctuation (Ben Croshaw), and AVGN. I will agree that AVGN has kinda lost a little bit of it's luster, but then again, he's been doing a LOT more than JUST the Nerd for a while now, so I'm not surprised that the Nerd isn't up to snuff as it was years ago.
But I don't even consider what he does as a legitimate review, it's just fun to watch especially if you have played the game.
It's like watching a comedian and joke about something that hits close to home for you; it makes the joke even more worthwhile.
I want to start doing youtube reviews on GB/GBC and SNES games, but I looked up some of the software I would need to pull it off and DAMN it's expensive.
