Yeah, if it weren't for that game, I wouldn't have ever seen this spoof/review:

Classic!

One day I may try the sequel, but I'm scared away for now.

Which sequel?

The Heroes of the Lance sequel was PC/Dos only, didn't have a console port.
I'll try to find and link it. I think there's even a 3rd game, but it's quite different (isometric).

Yeah, Dragons of Flame.

There's actually a patched rom of the Famicom version with an English translation on the internet. It's what I've played.

Oh, right! I didn't notice.

I think I'll try the dos version though, if I get to it.

Eternal Eyes on the ps1 was fairly standard, and didn't do much to contend with FF Tactics. However, it was $1.99 new at target back then, and I definitely got my moneys worth from it.

In a true "Jack Sparrow" fashion, you suggest that the game is worth playing, but haggle over price (I think that's how Jack would see it at least).
Maybe that's how reviews should be rated. I think that would be more helpful. And I've even seen people do that in reviews, saying "it's not a terrible as a bargain-bin game", or something similar.

A $0-60 scale.
$60 is amazing enough for a new purchase.
$50 is still a must buy, but find it on sale.
$40, Good Fun, wait for the 1st price drop
$30, Mediocre, wait for a great deal on Amazon.
$20, Worth a look, but hold out for GH release or clearance price.
$10 and under, is flawed but a nice bargain bin find (Cheap Thrill)
$0 Don't even waste your time, even if it's free

And that could be adjusted based on the cost of the games on a particular platform.
Of course, that would probably upset game companies quite a bit, outright telling consumers to disregard the retail price.

This is so bad I didn't list it because I don't consider it a game. I don't believe there has ever been anything this bad that was ported to so many consoles. I have only played the SMS version, but I'd assume they are all just as worthless?

Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Commodore 64, DOS, FM Towns, MSX, NES, PC-88, PC-98, SEGA Master System, ZX Spectrum

I can't think of anything I've played that I enjoyed less than this.

I've spent about a couple hours playing HotL and it is playable. I've gotten fairly far into the game and have enjoyed it. Once you figure out the game mechanics it's an impressive NES rpg.

And it's kinda funny that Drakken is mentioned in the first post. I like that game too.
I guess I have a soft spot for mediocre fantasy games.

That's just CRAZY how many systems HotL was ported to. There must not have been much competition that year or something.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it "impressive", Opa. You found some redeeming value in it, that's cool. But the only thing I might even consider worthy of actual praise in the game is the character intro pics at the beginning, which at least make your party look interesting before the game traumatizes you.

From what I understand, the game can even be completed in like 10 minutes or so, if you know exactly where to go. That's got to be some kind of record for an RPG... and definitely not what RPGs are about.

But thanks for continuing my point; that there doesn't seem to be an RPG that is truly, universally hated.

Although, I'd really like to discover one that is.
In my Googling "worst/bad RPG lists", I did run across a PC game called F.A.T.A.L., but I think that's an Adult/dirty game or something, and I kind of disregard those in my own consideration.
