ok, I plugged that hole in my roof. I made a furnace. Made a pickax and started mining a bit. Feel like I'm making progress... but also not really sure what I should be doing exactly haha.

So start being creative, gather materials, make a home be it in the rock or out in the open in the trees. You want to find diamond so you can mine obsidian and make a portal to a hell dimension.

Nice! I love building inside mountains and using the landscape as part of my creations. They are the most fun and I feel look the best versus those huge creations people make. Sure they look good from a. distance but up close it is gnarly.

I was quickly clicking on the new threads I needed to read and read this completely out of context without noticing the thread title. It was amazing.

Re: You gotta try this new game. It's called Minecraft.
Got bored and tried it out again last night and ended up going an hour or two into it. Figured out how to make a bed and a few other items. The land that generated was pretty slick with lots of hilly stuff that stretches out so I found this edge of a sheer mountain near water and hollowed out a fairly ok sized home, opened a partial side of it and threw glass into that.
I found digging there was a dip between where I was and the rest of the range, so I built back as far as I could before exposure, then as the sun was up, created a dirt covered tunnel (2x2) walking space to the other and went further some. I started to dig down.
I always get confused on the best way to do this. In the last attempt years ago I made like basically a massive wide set of stairs diagonally down and at times would branch off looking for stuff. This time I went for a spiral staircase effect in a 4x4 area that corkscrews down aways before I stopped. Along that ride I found 2 small deposits of iron.
How far down can I go in this game anyway before I actually find anything worth mining (diamond, redstone) etc? I know seeing those lego kits you have Netherworld or other deep caverns. There has to be a better way about this other than slowly going around and down.
I've totally forgotten the few building things I did before, really do need to learn to make and reinstall a new metal door so I can remove the blocks off the front of my place, but also place a cap on my mining tunnel out of the back of my place in case the game decides to generate some walking death.
Also, is there some way to figure out where you're going other than somehow later making a compass with more complicated goods? Due to the tall peak above my place, I went to the highest point, made a small tower up top and put a block off each of the 4 sides and placed a torch on that as a beacon if I ever go wandering so I don't get too lost but that seems a bit impractical.

ha! I did the same thing where I made a tall tower of sand above my place to help me find my way home.
I also need to figure out how to make doors. I haven't made a mine entrance in my house yet because I don't have a door actually.
Glass! How do you make glass? Sand is involved I assume, of which I have plenty.

Doors are easy. Just think about their shape and what they are made if. As for glass....think about how glass is made wink wink.
Also, making towers of any material and lining it with torches is a great way to find your way home, especially in the dark.

Won't the torches be extinguished next time it rains? I had thought of that but figured it'd be a waste of torches if so.
