With an MMO you're playing on their servers, so they need a big farm for the player base. And MMOs develop a ton of content in between expansions (at least, the good ones do). Your money pays for both. Live is a peer to peer matching service. You're comparing apples to oranges.
I don't get it either. You're basically pointlessly paying for a secondary ISP to play games on one specific platform. It's silly.

Kinda random, but you can play FFXI without gold. So, at least you don't need both.

But yeah, theres no arguing that the 360 is bottom of the current gen consoles.

Still though... The shmups are jizz-worthy

My thoughts about it are average. Most of the games I want are on the PS3. Perhaps once it hits 100 bucksish I will pick one up. There are a few good exclusives I want, mainly the shmups and XBLA games :D

And of course if I did get a 360, I would not pay for Live. I don't really like online gaming enough to warrant PAYING for it. I mean it would be one thing if I used it alot or something, but I rarely play my PS3, let alone online so it wouldn't be worth it.

I have a few things to say about this argument, not directed at anyone specifically. Just my thoughts. So...

I really don't understand this "console wars" mentality. Didn't we leave this shit behind us back in the fucking 90s? :?

It seems that some of you may find this difficult to understand, but for good or ill, taste plays a big part in what people like. Not your definition of taste mind, but each player's individual definition.

Sony fans who call Microsoft the big invader seem to forget that Sony was the big invader when they came on the scene. Why are they suddenly exempt from this hatred? Just because they aren't the "fuckin' new guy" anymore? I can assure you, Sony is no more a video game company than Microsoft is, and having a couple of internal studios to make games doesn't change that. They were both companies with an unrelated focus that have delved into video games and succeeded at doing so. That's it.

When I hear people decry the xbox as a terrible system for one reason or another, then state they like having it anyway because of certain games or genres, it strikes me as denial. If you have so much disdain for this system and the company who makes it, you wouldn't own the damn thing at all. You wouldn't be giving them your money. But you do have it, and that means that whether you like it or not, it has something to offer you.

I can tell you this, if the platform a game appeared on mattered to me that much, I would have given up on games the moment Sonic the Hedgehog appeared on a Nintendo system.

I expect more from Racketboy. We're here to fucking play games. Its silly to expect integrity from companies that act to make money, one way or another, and its important to remember that its the developers of games (who are still out to make money in the end) who are the ones with a passion for what they deliver. If they make a worthy game, it doesn't matter one damn bit what means they use to release it. What does matter is supporting the effort.

God I love this site :D . It's not every day that you find people online that resort to arguing with the sole intention of defaming whatever they don't like. I'll humbly bow out from any chance of starting a flamewar, but I'll say 'good on ya!' for some nice constructive criticism.

I completely agree with CFFJR in the sense that it's a game system, just have fun with it. If you don't have it, and don't plan to get it, no need to go further than stating that.
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

Bleh, software. Sorry, you know what I meant. I was being very general. The point is that both MS and Sony were complete outsiders.

It is funny wording though, and incorrect, so I can change it. How do you think it should read?

Yup. i have eighteen 360 physical release games. 11 are shmups. 1 is a shmup/fighter cross over. 1 is a rail shooter. :P Throw in 2 iDOLM@STER games, a fighter, the Orange Box, and a couple of RPGs. And that's it. :D

Yeah, your main point that neither one was doing much with video games before going into the market is true. Nintendo started with playing cards and tried a bunch of other things before Yokoi's super hand and the Game and Watch stuff, and Sega started with pinball and moved to arcade games. Before the Xbox launched I know Microsoft did do some publishing deals for other studios but they didn't have any dedicated game studios themselves.

I think a lot of the hate that Microsoft gets is that they attracted a new demographic that many old timers dislike: the bro gamers.
