Sonic CD is fun but if you try and get the best ending then you're wasting time every level trying to find those damn roboticizers and time posts - which even after you find them you'll have to be able to go at a fast speed long enough -- which can be difficult some levels because some *coughwhackyworkbenchcough* are anything but straight lines.
Not saying all the levels had to be simple, but if they want us to play the game right they should at least throw us a bone here or there.
Racing Metal Sonic and a lot of the music is really cool though. I also really like the peel and wish they used it in S3&K.

Re: S&K + Sonic 3 questions SOLVED
When I was playing through S3&K, I was running out of time while fighting the boss at the end of Sandopolis. I ended up landing the last hit on the boss with 9:99 on the clock. I have never done this before. You get a like a bazillion points for it.

Don't worry, I'm with you all the way on that one. I LOVE the original Sonic and S&K, but Sonic CD is in another realm for me. I love both soundtracks, it's one of the most gorgeous looking sidescrollers to me, was made by the Sonic 1 devs so it still has that classic feel unlike some of the later games, etc. It's just Sonic! Nobody else. I love that, as much as I like Tails and Knuckles. Sonic CD stuck with simplicity in the characters and I liked that. Awesome past/future idea, awesome intro/endings, etc.BoringSupreez wrote:Sheesh, what's with all the dislike for Sonic CD? That's my all-time favorite Sonic game. The one Sonic game that got a non-Dr. Robotnick villain right. The one with 2 great soundtracks. Plus, it had that cool peel-out move that the other games never used, for some odd reason. And it was super-fast, even for a Sonic game.
Timeless stuff all around to me. If there's ONE complaint I have, it's how much of a pushover the final battle is. A straight up joke.
But that is more of the greatness to Sonic CD to me. Really, you don't have to go for those machines and can just go for the Emeralds, get all those and the future becomes permanently good. But as for seeking out those machines or the Metal Sonic enemy projectors... I think it's cool you CAN play the levels like that because they are rather huge (I love how vertically huge most of them all, with the huge backdrops it really gives an epic sense of scale), so it can be like a big adventure game... OR, you can just blast through the levels and get through the game in 30-60 minutes. The time attack modes are great, love the Emerald stages in this one, that cool unlockable globe thing, lots of cool stuff to uncover. This game kind of feels different like a new experience every time I play it, can't really always say that about the other Sonic's.Sideroller wrote:Sonic CD is fun but if you try and get the best ending then you're wasting time every level trying to find those damn roboticizers and time posts - which even after you find them you'll have to be able to go at a fast speed long enough -- which can be difficult some levels because some *coughwhackyworkbenchcough* are anything but straight lines.

I was thinking about playing through Sonic CD again. Like I said, I don't hate it. I just don't have love for it like I do for Sonic 2 or 3&K. You still get the emeralds from the bonus stages, right? I don't remember exactly... you get into the bonus stages the same way you do in Sonic 1, right? There's a giant ring at the end of the level if you have 50+ rings?
The Game Gear games on the other hand... I've tried to play a few of them (if not all) and I just don't like them. They just don't play well. And on that note, I've tried playing Sonic 1 on Master System a few times, I just can't get into it. It's just so boring compared to the Genesis games.

Re: S&K + Sonic 3 questions
I never really noticed the spiked enemies disappearing. In Hydro City there was a spring that would bounce you back into the crusher wall, but with Sonic & knuckles locked on it's replaced by a 1up. The changes for sonic are pretty minor though.StephPlusPlus wrote:I think everything is the same in S3 in S3&K except for Launch Base. Launch Base is a lot easier in S3&K (no spike enemy things on the spinny things, item placement different) because Launch Base is no longer the end of the game. SEGA pretty much made it easier to advance to the S&K part of S3&K.Ziggy587 wrote:OK, so, if I lock Sonic 3 on S&K and play as Sonic, are all of Sonic 3's original levels the same? Do they change at all?
Been a while since I've been into it, though. I feel like I'm forgetting something.
Also, if you use the debug code, you can make your way to sonic's boss in marble garden as knuckles and get flown around as tails. You can also play death egg as knuckles.

Whoa snap, really? Don't think I've ever known about that, playing Death Egg with Knuckles sounds awesome.Jrecee wrote:I never really noticed the spiked enemies disappearing. Whilst I'd agree with the Game Gear sonic games (mostly, Tails Adventure and Sky Patrol both look interesting), I have to disagree on sonic on the Master System. I really enjoy that one. Sonic 2 on Master System on the other hand, I hate.Ziggy587 wrote: The Game Gear games on the other hand... I've tried to play a few of them (if not all) and I just don't like them. Yeah I thought the first Sonic Master System game was pretty cool (especially considering it released after the Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog), but 2 was a little weaker... had that damn kite and the stupid tube stages at the end.alienjesus wrote:Whilst I'd agree with the Game Gear sonic games (mostly, Tails Adventure and Sky Patrol both look interesting), I have to disagree on sonic on the Master System. Same here. Too much stuff on the screen makes it a pain to navigate (specially at those speeds). Plus, it wasn't that good in general.
And yeah Sonic 1 on Master System is a great game. imo the best 8-bit platformer ever made. Perhaps second only to SMB3 (not to me, but I can understand why somebody would like it over sonic)
