i mean there's obviously porn on blu-ray now since it's the adopted format, but beforehand it was all on HD DVD. there were crossovers, i'm sure, (like with Beta vs. VHS) but it was predominately HD DVD.

i guess High School Musical at wal-mart was a bigger money maker and a larger push in the official blu-ray adoption than something you could easily get off on the internet to for free.

talking about HD DVDs and Blu Ray DVDs I think the ugliest most horrible thing that has ever came out was the idea of having UMD movies on the PSP, I believe Juno was one of them and a list of many others. As soon as the movie contract to keep making those God-awful UMD movies ended, the PSP lost its left leg it seemed like because of technology to simply just put the movies into the hard drive.

Afterall, when the PSP started, it came with a 32MB drive and if you couldn't wait to get a 4GB memory stick pro duo 4 years later, you had to buy this big huge bulky wammer jammer that cost you $250, the same price as an actual PSP at that time.

I think UMD Video might have had a shot if Sony actually put out more players that ran the discs. Maybe build it into some of their smaller TV sets or make a very small and cheap home UMD player. The content was pretty good, considering it was only ever compatible with one device, but the latter was a huge roadblock for the format.

yeah supposedly that was the original ide, but they never followed through. I agree that probably would have helped things.

They probably found out that when the blu-ray won against the HD-DVD they probably didn't care about the UMD project like they did. It would have been nice if the UMD have just been discs and not that case that encases the UMD since it looks ugly and bulky. The UMD and the gamecube CD may rest in peace
