I think the SMS games are real hidden gems in Sega's catalog. They are totally different from the Genesis variants and are incredibly well executed platformers - it's obvious that Sega wasn't just cashing in and having their second string developers handle the 8 bit games.Xeogred wrote:You're crazy, it doesn't have blast processing!
Yeah, I should really try and beat the SMS games.
I call the assembly of the racketeers.
Re: I call the assembly of the racketeers.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: I call the assembly of the racketeers.
I was never able to get into the SMS Sonics. I don't know what it is, there's just nothing that grabs me.
But yeah, I guess that came off as a massive complaint I have with the Sonic games, but it's really not that big of a deal. I just wish the first two and S&K had a save feature like Sonic 3 did. But they don't, and I'll play them anyway.
I just checked, it's $15 on Amazon. I think I'll definitely pick it up for that price. Mainly because I only keep a few consoles in my main room with the rest of my consoles in the man cave. It'd be nice to have a great Genesis collection in my main room.Xeogred wrote:Yeah, well I dunno if you saw my edit above, but you can save during games at any time in the Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection. Might be useful for you.

I'd be up for it, but 8 bit Sonic 2 is kinda brutal. I'd be afraid of people dropping out. I'm not saying no or anything though.o.pwuaioc wrote: While S3&K is my favorite Sonic game, even my favorite game on the Genesis, I think a real challenge would be Sonic 2 for the Game Gear. Or maybe since both are relatively short we can do a double feature for one month.
Definitely a good idea though to do more than one game at a time.
Dude, get on that already!Xeogred wrote:You're crazy, it doesn't have blast processing!

They're pretty different, but still great. I'd also say they're more difficult on the whole than the genesis games, with the exception of Sonic Chaos.

Re: I call the assembly of the racketeers.
Yeah, I seriously didn't even know about the SMS games until like last year. This entire time I thought there was only one Sonic on the SMS, and I always thought it was just like the Genesis version but ran slower or something weird like that. Boy was I wrong, and it was a real treat discovering them. It's like if I grew up thinking Super Mario World was the first Mario games or something and didn't know about the others, haha.
So yeah I definitely need to beat those two. While most of you other guys here need to beat that nice chunk of Genesis Sonic games.
Also since we're talking a lot of Sonic in this thread, once again I wanna ask... anyone else a fan of 3D Blast here?
@Ziggy587: For $15 that's damn well more than worth it, you get 40 some games and a dozen or so unlockable titles, it's insane. Literally has some of the best Genesis games you could think of, though I randomly wish they had the Earthworm Jim ports on there. I kind of prefer the first EWJ on the Genesis over the SNES version.

I actually do like 3d blast. Its not the best game, but it has it fun moments. Plus, I really like a lot of the game's music, in both the genesis and Saturn versions.
And don't feel too bad about not knowing the SMS Sonic games. SMS Sonic 1 came out after genesis Sonic 1. It screws people up.

And hell yeah I think 3D Blast seriously has some of the best Genesis music hands down. The Saturn version is great too, but not quite Sonic CD (US and J) epicness.
Seriously almost sounds too epic for a Sonic game.
Ahhhhh yeah:

Yes, I love both of those! Rusty Ruin is just perfection!Xeogred wrote:Wow really? No wonder it's kind of a lost game... weird.CFFJR wrote:I actually do like 3d blast. I was pretty close to posting that one as well, heh.
Probably the easiest and least fun Emerald stages though, I can say that about 3D Blast. I also really can't stand Sonic 2's. You're pretty much screwed if you play those with Tails.
EDIT: Also some cool news, Sonic Generations demo possibly up tomorrow...

Oh and I just LOVE how Gold is required to download a lot if not most demo's thesedays. Thanks MS. Guess I'll be playing that on the PS3, hopefully the demo hits it tomorrow too.

It is possible to do it with Sonic and Tails together, but it takes an already difficult stage and amps up the brutality.
You have to damn near memorize the stages and plan your movement and jumps with the delay in Tails' jump. If you jump early, Tails will collect a few more rings before following and you'll both dodge the bombs. God help you if he gets in front of you though.
The seventh stage is particularly nasty since everything is scattered. Then its pretty much down to luck... Though I've had good fortune in general by forcing Tails into bombs frequently so he never gets hold of more than a few rings. Its harder to get more yourself that way, but its worked for me before.
As for that demo....

Re: I call the assembly of the racketeers.
I don't think I ever beat all the special stages of Sonic 2 with Sonic and Tails legitimately. I've done it with save states, but on the actual hardware? Forget about it.CFFJR wrote:It is possible to do it with Sonic and Tails together, but it takes an already difficult stage and amps up the brutality.
