It also came out 4! years later. By 2001 it was Dreamcast or PS2 time (personally).brunoafh wrote:Yeah. I would imagine most people aren't familiar with it because it's hidden in the hulking shadow of SotN being that it's the only other PSX Castlevania game, and it was originally released for some obscure Japanese home computer.

you definitely forgot bloodlines.jfe2 wrote:... do you think of the classic NES titles, the more current Metroidvania titles, or the new 3D reboot?
i think of that or the original. IV just sucks.
if you took a shit, please put it back
Re: When you hear "Castlevania...
Bloodlines comes under "Classic Nes Titles", when he said classic nes, he means they are linear.final fight cd wrote:you definitely forgot bloodlines.jfe2 wrote:... do you think of the classic NES titles, the more current Metroidvania titles, or the new 3D reboot?

Felt I should mention Japanese Castlevania 3, and the translation patch for it: http://www.romhacking.net/trans/730/
better sound, I think the Medusa on the 4th/ship stage is female, fleamen are gremlins, the partners are more useful(Grants usefulness as a fighter really cranks up), etc. overall it's easier, but it's different enough(possibly better) to be worth checking out.

I think this page mentions most (if not all) of the differences: http://castlevaniadungeon.net/Games/cv3foreign.htmlMidnightRider wrote:Felt I should mention Japanese Castlevania 3, and the translation patch for it: http://www.romhacking.net/trans/730/

I mentioned it back a few pages. The music and sound is bad ass compared to the NES version. It's the reason I got a Famicom.
It's a great Castlevania game in the original format, but definitely not the best in the series.stuff about Bloodlines
I've tried to play this game many times, I just can't get into it. The controls seem stiff, which is weird to say about a CV game if you know what I mean. There's just something, I can't put my finger on it, but the game never grabbed me. I'll probably try to play through it again one day.stuff about Chronicles on PS1
I made an LOL about Chronicles in another thread once, something about it being a lot better in comparison to Haunted Castle. It's not really a true CV game, but did any one every try Haunted Castle? I have it for PS2. It's unplayable.

Re: When you hear "Castlevania...
Well I was just at the castlevania wiki, where I caught up on a bunch of characters and games, as well as read the entire timeline for the series. I also completely spoiled the plot of Lords of Shadow for myself.
I really want to explore the entire series now. What have I done to myself?

Re: When you hear "Castlevania...
Chronicles is a PS1 port of a release on the Sharp X68000 computer from 1993. It was essentially a remake of the original game with a beefier graphics engine, linear gameplay, and a harder difficulty. Also note the same year, Dracula x: Rondo of Blood was released in Japan for the PC-Engine CD, which is most likely why not too many people are familiar with the X68000 version of Akumajo Dracula.CFFJR wrote:I'd never heard of it before this topic. It plays like the older games, I take it?
