Listening to music, playing video games, communicating with people on a forum, and reading books all require thought and can ultimately be ways to better yourself in one way or another.
Television does not. Television effectively rots your mind and makes you ok with being bored and not using your mind, much like drugs do.
Yeah watching a good TV show requires no thought at all, provides zero level of enrichment and can't possibly be anything other than brain-rotting boredom.
Nice to see that you value storytelling, writing, acting, and camerawork so highly.

There are a number of good television shows out there, and movies as well. I didn't say that every show out there was garbage by default. I'm actually a pretty big movie buff, and value good writing and direction very highly.
The problem is that somewhere between 80-90% of the things regularly playing on television during your average programming block are about as thought provoking as watching paint dry, and are only there to soak up air time and run commercials.

Could you explain to me how listening to music is different from watching television?

Well of course, plenty of garbage television out there (majority of it, even) but we're discussing a specific show here. It's not like we're talking about the newest season of Laguna Beach or something.
The idea that TV programming is like the bottom rung of the entertainment ladder just irritates me, that's all. There's a difference between tuning in to watch a specific show that seems interesting to you and just having the tv going while you watch whatever the hell comes on.
I guess it just seems like those 'tv is garbage' comments are just taking a big dump on the tons of great tv shows that have come out over the years. Sorry if I acted snappy.

It's different in a number of ways. You can listen to music while doing anything, it doesn't require you to be plastered in front of something staring into nothingness. A quality film or show can give you the same amount of enrichment that enjoyable music can, I'm not arguing that fact. My issue is that most television watching sessions are spent watching insultingly mindless brain numbing drek that's seemingly trying to appeal to an audience with an average IQ of 75 peppered with advertisements and product placement spots.

This... though I do not think people are quite so stupid for doing so. People fall in and out of trends no matter how cringeworthy it is. I notice this nerd look is cool now. I got ripped for looking like a nerd in the 90's....if i'd look like a nerd now id get laid more often.
Anyway I was rummaging around the backyard shed and i found this
Personally, I use television for its brain rotting tendencies. I only watch for about an hour before bed when I'm too tired for interactive entertainment. At 10pm I don't really need to be intellectually challenged.
We are prepared to live in the plain and die in the plain!
All I'm saying is that you're all missing out for no other reason than past prejudices against the show. Let me ask you this: Did you turn away from playing games like Duck Tales of Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers, just because their primary market is children? Of course not, because they are great games. But, gamers shunned them initially because of their target audience. The same goes for this show. It's your loss.

This. Just because it seems to be aimed at kids doesn't mean it's not great.
I mean, look at what Pixar's done! It can easily be argued that their movies are aimed towards kids and families. But everything they come out with is an instant hit among everyone. Why? Because it's ridiculously well done.
If I ever see that this is on, I'll give it a shot, though with our crappy TV on campus, it may take a while.

The entire series so far is also up on YouTube, with most of them in 1080p. Hasbro doesn't seem to mind; none of the videos have been taken down for copyright violations.
