I'm very pro-guns. I've never fired one, I'd like to, but the gun laws around here are hard to get around.

I'm absolutely anti-gun control. It already exists here, doesn't work. Also, cops carry AR-15s. The imbalance of power is too big to outright ban guns for the general populace.

That image about rape that implies that people advocating gun control like to see women raped is wrong on so many levels I almost exploded.

Fact 1) Most rapes do not happen in a "dark alley". Period.
Fact 1.5 ) Most rapes are done by people the victim trusted, like familiars or friends.
Fact 2) Most rapes do not end in murder
Fact 3) If the woman being raped has a gun, so can the rapist. In fact, since the rapist is the one attacking here he has
Fact 4) Assuming death penalty for rape is the best thing to do is, on the very least, very debatable.
Fact 5) Theory =/= Hypothesis

I think it's very dishonest to charge the debate by introducing rape in the equation, specially in such a manner. If you want to argue something, no matter what your position is, do yourself a favor and lay the facts on the table in the most rational and academic manner instead of relying on alarmism.

And unless you are a twelve-year old, please, "Hitler ate sugar" is not going to win you any debates.

Fifth, the US isn't exactly liked internationally, stemming from many policies related to the Cold War and its puritanical background. I prefer the thought that if suddenly one day someone does attempt an invasion, I already have the tools to wage a guerrilla campaign at my disposal.

I know the "facts" of rape you mentioned. I didn't imply that this was the only way rapes occurs or claim that guns magically protect you when are under attacker. Guns are just another tool and like other tools can cause harm. I will admit I included the picture for shock value. I believe everyone has the right to defend themselves against an attacker. If the woman was required by law to carry a gun, an attacker be it mugger or rapist would be less inclined. Call me an "alarmist", call me a "12 year old" but I am not the one to succumbing to name calling. Also, no one wins a debate on the internet.

This isn't a "hitler ate sugar" correlation equals causation fallacy. An unarmed populace is easier to subjugate.

By contrast, homicide rates are highest in the underdeveloped countries, many of which ban private firearm possession. In some, private murder does not compare to the genocidal murder committed by governments against their unarmed subjects.

Your image implies the first and very much claims the second (As the gun is the difference between her death and the death of his attacker)

It also implies death penalty for a would-be rapist and that those in favour of gun control don't care about rape (because the claim higher moral ground, according to that image)

I can change the image and say that gun control is the difference between a happy utopia and Columbine. It would be exactly as shitty and making the same emotional claims.

That's not the point made by your picture. Your picture has the message that Gun Control is bad because some dictators enforced gun control.

It also implies that the people who research the topic are in favour of dictatorships.

Of course, gun control causes the highest homicide rates, not poverty, a politically unstable climate and constant wars.

Such countries do not have a very respected law either. When you can't even know when someone was born I think gun control laws are useless.

Agreed. I was never 'against' guns, but I just wasn't into them until I went to the range and fired a pistol for the first time. Now I have that pistol (which turned out awesome, btw) and I inherited a rifle and some shotguns from my dad.

I just sold my first gun, the aforementioned Ruger SR9C. And I just purchased my second - a Beretta 92fs! Love this damn thing. So classic looking. Also, it's hardly used. And by hardly, I mean HARDLY, like under 100 rounds through it, if that. I got a great deal on it from a local gun shop.


I really have no idea why these pics aren't being rotated when I edit them. I actually rotate them but they dont get saved. So weird.

Nice score on the Beretta. I'm amazed at how cheap they seem to be these days, especially compared to a Sig. They both use the same materials, but most 92's I find are about half the price of a comparable Sig Sauer.

I've thinned my gun collection out over the years. I'm down to a Glock 26 and Walther P99, a Ruger MKIII, Remington 870, Norinco SKS, Mossberg .410 shotgun, Remington 742 in 30.06, and a Ruger 10/22. I also finished building an AR-15 earlier this summer. The upper I used is pretty beat up though, so I might end up getting a new one sometime down the road.

I find that I don't really have the need or urge to get anything else. The ones I have pretty much cover all the bases for me.

I love my guns. All of them. We have about 12 or so in my house, and my grandpa keeps around 25-30 up at his house. Both my parents, my sister, and my grandfather have a concealed carry license. My uncle open carries in Colorado. I've been shooting since I was about four. Its in my blood in so many ways I can't even begin...

You can argue about gun control, but I'll leave this. Its a quote I came up with and have used more than once. I think it holds true.

I've been thinking about arming myself. I've only ever gone shooting once, and I was a kid. I really liked the rifles. Those are a little difficult to carry around concealed though. I didn't like the kickback on the handguns, but maybe it'd be different now that I'm not 12. Any tips?
