That's understandable, and I can definitely appreciate a company not running their series into the ground. Don't get me wrong though, I'd still react very openly to a well made sequel.
REPO Man wrote:* I agree. Maybe use the SSF4 engine, if not the MvC3 engine. Also, new characters. Like maybe a Freddy Krueger-like character?
* I started playing Psychonauts some time ago, though maybe they'll release an HD remake.
* This needs to be one of those GCN games that gets a Wii update
* They let it die because it's not Final Fantasy. Yeah, it sucks when our heroes act like the villains.
* I've only played Earthbound once and even I agree with you. I mean, it's like they don't care how much we want it. Like they, for some stupid reason, care more about across-the-board appeal over die-hard appeal.
* If they do a SMRPG sequel, they need to add Square Enix cameos, a la Kingdom Hearts.
* Yes
* Wasn't that what Maximo was?
Darkstalkers - I think the MvC3 engine would be better suited to the frantic pace the Darkstalkers games developed, and would fit the atmoshpere better. I agree that there's a lot of potential for great new characters, Darkstalkers still has one of my favorite casts as it is now.
Earthbound - I know, we can't even get a VC release and have to rely on translation patches for the first and last titles. Heck, I'd settle for an official release of the whole series so I could play it without having to download most of it.
Super Mario RPG - Yeah, I thought it was strange that there were only Nintendo cameos in it. Unless you count Culex, who's kind of a general reference to the Final Fantasy universe.
Ghosts 'n Goblins - Funny you should mention that, I purchased Maximo a week or two ago and literally today I was ready to pop it in and finally give it a try. Unfortunately my PS2 isn't getting any younger and still can't read blue-backed CDs, so I'll have to wait until later to experience it.

My little list:
Thrill Kill: Ok, it was never officially released on PS1 since it got yanked due to being too violent or some crap like that but it is available through ROMs and even now it's pretty good! I think it would benefit greatly on the power of the next generation systems.
Final Fight: I thought I read somewhere that this was happening but I could be wrong.
Double Dragon: I can't believe this has not happened yet!
Friday the 13th: Hard to believe that old Jason has only seen a NES and some computer releases. I'd like to see what the power of the next generation systems could do with this even if I'm the only one.

The Legend of Zelda, the original from the NES/Famicom Disk-System. Leave the gameplay itself alone. Don't turn it 3D, don't turn it 2.5D and don't mess with what's already there. But update the graphics & sound, and maybe add some more gameplay modes or a secret dungeon or something to it. I would LOVE to see that.
Crystalis would be another I would like to see redone in the same exact way.
And finally, Actraiser. I don't care if it's a remake of the original, or an entirely new sequel. Either way, SquareEnix really needs to revisit this gem. And if they do, please, PLEASE include both the building-sim and the side-scrolling action-platformer levels like the original had. When Actraiser 2 lost the building-sim part of the game, it was not longer unique and just lost that charm that made the original so addictive.
Oh, and King's Field. I so freaking love that series. And we need one done in the beauty of current-gen graphics.

a 2d metroid game or a 2d castlevania game that doesn't appear on the wii or a handheld.

Castlevania I can understand, but how is a Metroid game going to appear on anything other than the Wii or a handheld?

It's obvious that flamepanther means either a 2D Castlevania game that is on a non-Nintendo console (I guess HoD didn't count, but my idea for a 2D Castlevania, tentatively called "Castlevania: Cantata of the Damned" would fit the bill) or a brand-new 2D Metroid game, though I thought that was what Other M was.

Other M was fully 3D the entire time. It's heavy use of a fixed side-view perspective lent the look and feel of a 2D side-scrolling platformer, but you can move and shoot in all directions at all times.
