flamepanther wrote:Mod_Man_Extreme, I will concede your points about the game's audience. However, you're deftly shooting down the same insinuation I was originally objecting to: that anyone was being "fooled" or that Nintendo was selling people the same game they already bought several times before. Thanks :)
I think you guys are really over analizing my use of the word 'fooled'. It has already been estabished that fooled was the wrong word to use and nobody was being fooled into buying it.

you guys this is kind of weird, but Nintendo told me I was buying a loaf of bread to feed my family but when I got home and opened it up it was actually Super Mario All-Stars on a Wii disc. Weird right? I guess the soundtrack is pretty cool, but I actually have all the Mario games on GBA. In fact, I even have Yoshi's Island on GBA which isn't included here. I can't help but feel a bit like I've been fooled. I mean, my family still has to eat. I knew $30 seemed kind of steep for a loaf of bread.

I got this collection as a gift, and I'm loving it. I never owned an NES or SNES so it's a great opportunity for me to legally play these games.

And I'm really amazed by how much fun SMB2 can be, I always dismissed it cause it wasn't a real Mario game. Fine by me.

And SMB3 is the only 2D Mario game I've liked as much as Super Mario Land 2.

How come Nintendo fans did not feel let down by Super Mario World in 1991? It isn't anywhere near as fun and as imaginative as Super Mario Bros 3.

what??? Dude I played all the SMB games back when they were originally released, and SMW is STILL my favorite. That one blew my mind. I remember after SMB3 I got a Genesis and was really into Sega and had no plans to get a SNES until the first time I played Mario World. Blew my mind.

Case in fact Miyamoto called Super Mario Bros 3 the worst game he ever made.

Literally.

Personally I like all the Mario's but am turned off by specifically the US version of 2 along with 3 and Super Mario World.

2 was just an annoying game in my opinion after playing the crap out of the first.

3 and World ruined the ultra tight controls and pixel by pixel accurate (that's not to say difficulty, just the responsiveness and accuracy of the controls) play of the original, in other word 3 and world felt slow and slippery. A feeling I've felt in every other 2D Mario game to date, albeit to a lesser degree.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

Has that guy played Wii Music?

I don't guys. I played the game to 100% on the GBA (all exits and star road and stuff) and I just didn't enjoy it as much. I just found that the levels weren't as imaginative as Mario Land 2 or SMB3.

I've tried multiple times to replay the game, but end up giving up on it half way.

This. Though I'm starting to think that Nintendo hates anything Gunpei Yokoi made for all the attention classic gameboy titles get these days.

I think that if Nintendo had actually cared about this collection instead of intending it for a quick cash-grab among the Mario faithful, they would have done something more interesting.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Yeah you are going to need to give me a reference for that one. I know he said it was embarrassing but not that the worst game he made.
