ROT needs to man up and get Neo Turf Masters. Those make the metal slugs look small time.

If you ask anyone who has owned all Neo Geo Hardware, they will always recommend the MVS either consolized or with a supergun.

Here is mine..

Have a look here for the different ones people build.

they also sell a lot of the parts needed to do the job.

Best of luck.

Add me to the list of MVS supporters.

I bought a Neo Geo CD a few years ago and ended up selling it because the load times sucked and it didn't have some of my favorite games such as shock troopers and metal slug 3. I built a cmvs shortly afterward and haven't looked back.

I have an AES and a Neo CD. I can for sure appreciate and understand that MVS is the cheapest bet overall, but the CD still to this day has its advantages. Take the following games for example, all play just fine on the CD system (minimal loading) and are all great games worth owning if you're into the Neo:

Windjammers
Neo CD -- I paid $12 for mine
AES -- $200ish
MVS -- $60ish

Twinkle Star Sprites
Neo CD -- I paid $60 for mine
AES -- $1000-1500
MVS -- $150-250

Pulstar
Neo CD -- I paid $75
AES -- $600-700
MVS -- $150-250

Last Resort
Neo CD -- got mine for $7
AES -- $100-150
MVS -- $50-100

etc. There are a good number of games that are cheapest on CD

You have to be willing to hunt a bit to find CD prices that good, but the truth is most people have completely abandoned the Neo CD so good deals are definitely out there.

Has anyone tried the MVS Convertor II? (from neostore) This apparently can handle the last games produced - including SVC Chaos.

I had a couple other questions also -

Do consolized MVS systems (like the walnut one) play AES carts also?

How difficult is it to install Unibios 3.0 (complete noob at this)?

Is there a go-to resource for modding AES systems for video output?

I think once you take into account the AES system ($200ish), the convertor ($250) and then the work to mod it (?), you're just about at the Walnut System price point.

Here he go haha :P

The reviews on the Converter II have been solid, but I have yet to try one personally. Consolized MVS systems utilize the actual arcade boards from the MVS arcade cabinets and do not play AES games because the pin set is a different size. If you look at pictures of the converter II, you can see at the top the plastic expands to fit the mvs cart. From what I understand. the unibios three install is fairly simple and is basically adding one chip to the board. For an aes mod, you need to work with a member on a forum of your choosing and see what they will charge you. Are you thinking RGB? SCART? Svideo? Component? I would ask the guys on the Neo-geo.com forums or possibly a known console modder here such as Ziggy or one of the many others.

I hope this takes care of your questions

For those reading this bumped thread - this is a great article that encapsulates the subject.
