Looks more like Ninja 4HE Gaiden to me.

I never read Ninja Gaiden this way, but I do remember confusing some watashi-speak as being stylized English letters as a kid. None of them were this memorable, though.

Considering the fact that two thirds of the 8-bit Ninja Gaiden trilogy was made in the 1990s, I'd be forced to assume that saying it has a very "'90s" feel is appropriate.

i had a friend who used to think it was "the gaiden," but i read nintendo power as a boy, so i knew better. he still to this day calls it "ninja the gaiden."

also, japanese nerds: "gaiden" is comprised of two different characters, right? 外 and 伝. i guess when they're really close together they look connected and look like "the."

外伝 quick brown fox jumped over 外伝 lazy dog...
