How about this coming Wednesday Aug 25th at 10:00pm EDT?

Thats going to be rough for me since it is the first day of school for me, but I'll do it if thats the only day available.

Since this is the first time we have run a league, and there will some people who are new to fantasy football, do we want to put a lot of $ in it for the first year?

Here are the original entry fee/game rules that enderfall and I came up with via PMs:

Here are the entry fee/game rules that enderfall and I came up with based on the first two posts of this thread:
-Every member must agree to send one game to designated party (to be named latter) worth between $10 and $20 from a past console - meaning no 360, PS3, or Wii games.
-The name of the game must be PM'ed to me by the draft so I can PM you the league URL and Password.
-The promised game must be sent and received by the 4th week of the football season.
-Who is sending what game must be kept a secret until the winner's package is sent out at the end of the football season. This will keep players from being bias during the season.

Does this sound good to everyone?
I'm thinking maybe we should make the games worth $5-$10 for the first year.

If we don't hear any feeback we will go ahead and move forward with these rules... assuming we get 10 players.

I'll be adding the Pick'em League any day now.

So who has been watching preseason games?

I usually change the channel after half time, but have caught most of the televised games. My thoughts as of today (as all of these may change by tomorrow):

No way is Vick going to be the starter for the Eagles. Guy is throwing ducks, and moves slower than ever.

The Redskins don't look anything like I anticipated. I thought all this time of rebuilding and healing would have them coming out looking like the team to beat in the NFC East.

My Bears suck as usual.

I learned long ago to never base any predictions about the upcoming season on even the first quarter or half of preseason games.

One request: if you do a Pick' Em league make sure that it allows you to pick each game right up until kickoff. I've been in leagues where I had to pick Sunday/Monday games before a Thursday kickoff and those piss me off. I like to know who is actually going to play before choosing.

I've picked better than Vegas for three straight years (now I'm jinxed) and I think the first two possessions can tell you a lot about a team. Not in the sense of stats to predict, but that intangible "they've got their shit together" feeling.

Fairly sure my settings are at "Enter 5 min before kick off".

I usually pick quite well too, but pre-season play has little to nothing to do with why I pick how I do.

Make sure the settings are for each game, not just the first of the week/day.

Not to worry. This isn't my first time at the rodeo. My settings are for each game.

The first two weeks (I believe) consist of 32 games. That could be a big loss of money for me if I didn't learn a few things from preseason. Teams develop, but teams are not the same each year, and you can detect forward progress from preseason games.

That's pretty nice that you're able to predict spreads better than Vegas but I would think there are more factors than simply the first 5 minutes of a game.. I think injuries play a huge factor into football spreads along with strategical match ups.. Say a team that plays a 3-4 defense(A defensive design to rush the passer with athletic linebackers) faces a team that runs a zone blocking scheme(An offensive blocking system that uses athletic offensive linemen to fend off outside rushers), the team with the zone blocking scheme has somewhat of a strategic advantage and might get more points even though the 3-4 team has more talent.. It all depends really there are many other factors of the game as well, talent is huge as well.... Bookies try to study as many facets of the game to try to get a good point spread going, and in the end Vegas usually wins.. I personally don't bet on spreads because you never know with the NFL.. So many games defy the odds these days due to the salary cap creating huge parody within the league..

Well, i just went through the posts, and we still only have 9 teams that have expressed interest, and only 5 that have been involved with the discussion on picking a draft date. Next week was pretty much out of the question, and it looks too soon to try anything this coming Wednesday.

Should we pull the plug on this idea and table it for next year?
