I would have preferred they went back to the 3 act style of Sonic 1, although then they'd probably have to add another mini boss or something.

really? I don't find them that long. Only Sandapolis act 1 seams too long to me.

Well Lava Reef act 2 is long, but it's so epic you can't complain.

I wouldn't mind S3-sized S&K levels.

Casino Night baby!

I love the music, backgrounds, pinball stuff, and just about everything else there. Robotnik is pretty cool in that level too.

For the people questioning the water in Carnival Night Zone, it's there as part of the story - remember the Death Egg sunk Angel Island into the ocean, so the island's low-lying levels are partially beneath sea-level. Once the Death Egg takes off at the end of Launch Base, the island rises enough out of the sea so that levels thereonwards are no longer underwater. Plus, the S&K levels take part in the central part of the island.

As for favourite levels:

From Sonic 1, I like Marble and Labrynth Zones the most, but they're all good except for Spring Yard.

Chemical Plant and Mystic Cave are my favourites from Sonic 2. I loathe Casino Night though. This game seems to have the least number of good zones in my opinion. I mean, why have a water zone - Aquatic Ruins where you can skip all the underwater sections of the level?

Sonic 3 & Knuckles has the best range of levels, and the transitions between them (or story) works great.

Lava Reef, especially Act 1, is my all time favourite from any Sonic game because it's very epic and there's little to no repetition in the level. It's a highly platform based level, yet still has its speedy moments.

Marble Garden is another favourite - the ancient theme, the music, the steep rolling hills, the huge number of rings and secrets, the vast explorability of the levels, the mid-level bosses, the changing ruins, the multiple paths. It's just so good.

Ice Cap, Launch Base, Sky Sanctuary and Death Egg deserve mentions as well.

Sonic 1 = Everything. Maybe not Star Light though, I tend to forget about that one.

Sonic CD = EVERYTHING! Seriously, everything here. This game is gorgeous and every stage is fun to me. VERY hard to pick favorites... I love the dark future Quartz Quadrant and Stardust Speedway a ton though, maybe those are my winners. Sonic CD went into development before Sonic 2 did I'm pretty sure, and it's design often shows that as I've always felt it feels closer to Sonic 1 than anything else. Topped off with the power of the Sega CD, I just love it.

Sonic 2 = I dunno, I love the game as a whole but don't think the levels or art design stand out as much as the other games. I'm not sure what it is but I absolutely can't stand Oil Ocean. If I get there and die several times, sometimes I just outright quit playing... lol, can't explain it. I guess I'd say the Metropolis zone is my favorite honestly, and it was nice that it was 3 stages.

Sonic 3 = Very hit or miss for me. I utterly hate the Carnival Night music and well, the stages are terrible as well. Marble Garden is kind of annoying too, or just weirdly designed. Not a big fan of Angel Island, but I love Hydrocity, Ice Cap, and Launch Base, along with the music in those ones.

S&K = This game certainly has a different feel to it than the others (well pretty similar to 3 for the obvious story connection and all), but I still love it. Mushroom Hill is pretty cool and very weird, I like it. Flying Battery is very awesome. I guess I'm not a huge fan of Sandopolis though, but after that it's just a chain reaction of epic... Lava Reef, Sanctuary, Death Egg, I absolutely love all of these stages.

Hell, it'd almost be easier for me to list the levels I don't like, because in general I love them all. I'll just talk about both.

Sonic 1 - They're all great. The only zone that's kind of a drag (depending on my mood really) is Marble Zone. My favorite of the bunch is probably Star Light, but Labyrinth gets an honorable mention since I love the music.

Sonic CD - My least favorite of the classic titles as a whole, but still a good game. Wacky Workbench and Metallic Madness are both a big, annoying pain in the ass. MM has the stupid mazelike areas that make the whole thing drag on, and WW is just plain obnoxious. I guess my favorite would be Stardust Speedway, or Tidal Tempest.

Sonic 2 - The game with the most stinkers, if you ask me. Don't like Aquatic Ruin or Oil Ocean, and Hill Top and Emerald Hill are merely ok. All of the others are fantastic, and my favorites are probably Chemical Plant and Mystic Cave. For those who were talking about it, it is possible to get all the emeralds with Sonic and Tails. Its hard to do, and requires you to know the special stages so you can plan Tails' jumps as well (with the delay and all), but I've done it.

Sonic 3 - Love every stage. This game is brilliant, especially when combined with Sonic and Knuckles. I can't even pick a favorite stage, as they're all just awesome. The boss of Marble Garden is simply amazing.

Sonic and Knuckles - Again, love them all. The only one that can be a downer is Sandopolis, but like Marble Zone, it depends on my mood. Lava Reef (with Hidden Palace) is probably my favorite, but the whole game is so full of cool stuff that its hard to pick.
