It's funny, I was writing a post about the head tracking and was using Mechwarrior as a reference but then gave up on it. I like the idea of being able to turn your head to look out the side, but when you're using a TV screen it becomes hard. If you want to use a single screen you really need an old style VR helmet. Otherwise the sensitivity of looking to the left or right has to be so high (so that you can turn while looking at the TV) that you'd have to hold very still while playing.
Totally, as nice as it'd be doing a 90 degree turn just plain won't work. But you could at least expand the field of vision reasonably. Even if it were just used to put ui elements off screen it could be a interesting try at making things more immersive.
Thinking about it more I remember when I played Heatseeker all the acrobatic crazyness in the game caused me to turn my head to the side and whatnot instinctively. If that sort of reaction could be integrated with the game somehow it'd be pretty impressive.

from this
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/gamestop-gives-kinect-USD149-99-priceit seams it's 150$ for the standalone thing, or 100$ extra when buying it bundled with an xbox.....which shows that MS doesn't care if it's current userbase buys it so don't expect any hardcore games for the thing.... ever.

This talk interests me, I may make a topic on this sometime soon. I'm a media undergraduate, and this is what i plan on attempting for my degree project in my final year next year. I'd be interested hearing peoples thoughts.

There goes the chance of this fucking thing succeeding.

Uh, head tracking has existed for single, stationary monitors for many years. The premise is as simple as the screen panning far more than your head has to. Looking behind is the most an application would require the head to turn at, perhaps, 45 degrees. Plus good tracking can do stuff like pitch, yaw, and roll.
Here's a video explaining TrackIR:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AO0F5sLdVMIf Kinect can do good tracking, that's pretty badass. Granted not every game will support it, but I really hope tracking will be wider supported in the future. It's great for sims and any first-person perspective (peeking around a corner, for instance). Though initially worried by the casual spin the video gives, if they can show off utilities like tracking, I may get excited yet.

It's not that it can't be done. The concern is the limitations it has with regards to how you hold yourself while playing. I know I move around alot when I play, so that kind of head tracking wouldn't work for me.

Do you know why that is? Doesn't Natal/Kinect have position awareness, so it can keep spacial track of where you move your head, relative to how you turn it? Plus, like in real life, you get used to how using your head affects your vision.

$150 just for the damn bar? And the new Xbox slim is $300? So the cost of entry to new customers is. . . $400? Compared to $200 for a wii. Oh, and the wii comes with a game.
As someone who already owns an Xbox, there is a 0% chance of me paying $150 for a camera thingy and $50 for a game to replicate the shitty experience of the wii.
Congratulations on Microsoft and Sony, for solidifying the fact that add-ons are failures.

I've always wanted one of those TrackIR thingies, but there simply aren't enough sims on the market that support it to make it worthwhile. I suppose the fact that only a small portion of the userbase plans on getting this addon will limit software support quite severely. L.C.D., whether it's mandatory installs (nonexistent on 360, thanks to Arcade) or motion-tracking support.
