Re: Central Texas Rackeboy member's meet
Just responded to the PM about my move dates. My girlfriend is still waiting for her exact start date, but more than likely I'll be down there towards the end of August. Of course if I can find a full time job before then I'll be down there much sooner.
Also, since there seems to be a fair amount of us that live (or are going to live) in the area, how does everybody feel about making this a monthly event? I almost envision this as being the Racketboy Gaming Club (Austin Branch). Maybe do whatever the Together Retro game is, and possibly have a monthly tournament as well.
Thoughts?

Sounds good to me. Of course, if it was the Racketboy Gaming/Drinking club, that'd be even better.onemanfilmcrew wrote:Also, since there seems to be a fair amount of us that live (or are going to live) in the area, how does everybody feel about making this a monthly event? Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I think we have found our location

We can have a standing thing, like the last Saturday of every month, and if people can make it great, and if they can't, the few of us that show up will be able to console themselves with beer and skeeball!

I've never heard of that place. Looks cool. I'll have to drive by and check them out.
I looked on google street view and they are almost right on 6th. It is west 6th which is a little easier to manage, but it looks like parking may still be difficult. Also keep in mind that the place is a bar. Anyone under 20 who wants to attend probably won't be able to.
It may be best to keep liquor as an after event thing.

I'm not averse to drinking, but I'd rather not make it the main focus. That place sounds cool, but bars in general are pretty loud and I've grown less and less enamored with having to scream at someone 2 feet from me to talk to them. The hoarse throat and ringing ears after isn't so hot either. Plus bars are expensive.
Food and drink is cool, but the main focus should be nerding it up since we're a retro gaming community.

I don't know about monthly either. I'm sure not going to be up for driving 3 hours away every month. Heck, when I had a girlfriend 3 hours away I didn't even manage to see her monthly.

I only live 30 mins away but I'll also say that monthly might be too much. It's really hard to arrange that kind of thing, at least at first. Bi-monthly or quarterly might be more feasible.
Speaking of games, we should hammer out some genres. I'm thinking something in the Konami Beat-em up line might be good for cross-genre appeal.
Of course! Though you have to admit that nothing goes with a 15 year old game like a $15 12 pack. And I'm not so interested in going to bars as just enjoying classic games with maybe a brew at hand. Like someone else said, Austin bars are really pricey.Hobie-wan wrote:I'm not averse to drinking, but I'd rather not make it the main focus....Food and drink is cool, but the main focus should be nerding it up since we're a retro gaming community.

Re: Central Texas Rackeboy member's meet
If someone's willing to donate a house, I'll drink and play until the sun comes up. But no one I've talked to about the meet in the area with a house has exactly jumped up and offered. Not that I blame them.
I don't have any Konami beat em' ups but I have a few others.
I think we should do a beat em' up, shmup day the first time around. Good, classic arcade feel.
