Could be right.

I stopped loving the Simpsons close to season 8 though. Ralph really made his stride during seasons 4-7.

A Bad Fur Day sense of humor.

I admit, I loved the first season of Family Guy. Every episode after that has been utter garbage. It's not progressive, doesn't convey a message, and usually doesn't contain any "jokes". Like epic movie and its ilk, the humor is "Hey remember this? Well we put it in our show!".

Yeah, I definitely agree with you there. But I wasn't really referring to their exhaustive pop culture references, moreso their mastery of timed gags and facial expressions (not that I made a point of that, but that's now been remedied). The bit in the Pope Comes to Town episode where they spoof the Dick Van Dyke show opening was one of my favorite moments in comedy ever, just because the timing was utterly flawless -- and because I'd joked about that as a "what-if" with my friends forever, and they actually did the idea justice. The Star Wars episode was fucking repugnant, though -- jeez, what a boring block of television. And yes, all of the Wayans Brothers films make me want to fucking kill someone. God fucking dammit, the fact that people manage to laugh and pour millions into stupid fucking garbage like that while people who work their asses off can't pay their damn bills makes me rage.

Anyway, now Futurama -- THAT was one hell of a cartoon sitcom.

Ha! Great points. Family Guy is like the Scary Movie series. The first one (movie/season) was actually pretty original and funny. After that though, yeesh.

That said, I'm sure people here think Marx Bros.movies are stupid and boring. Diff'rent Strokes.

I'm not a huge fan of the first one either, but I'll admit that it does deserve points for being pretty novel at the time. I'm not a fan of those movies, but that one is at least watchable. Oh, and Not Another Teen Movie had a couple of great moments (although some of it was stupid as all hell), the "FREEZE, BITCH." scene is fucking classic. On the whole though, Wayans Brothers films are like a cultural cesspool, and I actually get bitter on the off occasions that they actually get a chuckle out of me, because I want to be able to honestly say that they're 100% evil. I'll put it this way: they're the very, very, very, very dark gray side of the entertainment industry.

The fucking Marx Bros. Have this sack of e-props -- you've earned it.

This has gotten pretty off topic, but what has happened to comedy movies? Where's a good farce? There were all these great comedies when I was young. Airplane!, The Naked Gun series, Hot Shots, Attack of the Killer Tomatos, everything Mel Brooks has ever done, Wayne's World, Monty Python

I think the last comedy movie that was even remotely appealing to me was the South Park movie. These days it's all Scary Movie and Borat. Yawn. Am I just getting old, or have they just stopped making funny movies in favor of just plain stupid movies?

And yes, the Marx Bros. are awesome.

I think the movie quality is not very different from some years ago. Think about the 90s for a while. Yup, not nice. It's just that you don't remember all those bad movies.

Comedy is so incredibly subjective that it's hard to find comedy that will appeal to everyone. It's the reason I've accepted that most comedies made these days just aren't going to be well received by critics.

For recent comedies, I liked Pineapple Express, The Hangover and Hot Tub Time Machine. They ain't Mel Brooks, but I still had a few good laughs.

The death of Phil Hartman, all I'm saying.

And while we're at it, the Marx Bros. are hilarious. But if you want a good conversation on them, talk to Fastbilly.
