Syquest carts were huge, stored less, and I couldn't really get a drive to work on things at home. Once they added zip disks, I could take image and project files home from the Macs to work on my PC instead of fighting for time in the lab. It was great.Niode wrote:I had an external drive die of the click, and an internal one die of the click, I got the internal thinking it would have something to do with external drives but they both suffered the same fate. I would keep my zips in their plastic cases at all time, except when transferring between systems. I just think the very nature of the technology means a build up of crap on communal systems is bound to happen, once you get it into your zip that's it it's gonna crap out on you. Fucking hated the damn things. Hated em so much I would only store non-important data. If I had to make the data travel I had a box of 25 floppies just in case and would split the file.

Oh don't get me wrong they were great when they worked. I mean, 100MB of storage on a cassette the same size as as 2 floppies stacked. Wowzers. They were pretty cool, but when they broke. OMG. HUUUUUULK SMAAAAAAASH!!!!Hobie-wan wrote:Syquest carts were huge, stored less, and I couldn't really get a drive to work on things at home.
