I got the original GB version years ago, and I hated it when I first played it. I might have played it for a few minutes and then shut it off. But after the remake came out, I decided to give it another shot. It isn't that bad. You have to appreciate it for what it is, though.

My main problem with the game is the stiffness of the controls as well as the absolutely ludicrous precision it takes to make jumps. The part with the series of floating platforms comes to mind. Also it seemed like the enemies were far and few between. But then again the game was made in 1989 so maybe I should be more lenient on it.

That's what I mean by appreciating it for what it is.

My immediate problem with the game is how slowly it seems to move. It helps when you play it in an emulator and speed it up a little

As for the jumping thing, that is apparently a notorious problem with the game. The second one was suppose to be a lot better, fixing many of the annoyances it had.

Castlevania Legends is suppose to be pretty good, and I thought it played nice for the 5 minutes I had it on an emulator, but I don't want to pay $40 for a GB game.

After watching the Angry Video Game Nerd's excellent 4-part coverage (can't think of a better word) on Castlevania, I really feel like getting into the series. I've never even played a Castlevania game before. Would you guys recommend going for Castlevania IV or Rebirth first?

I'd say 4, only because I think it might be easier for a non-Castlevanian to get into the series with. Actually, it's the first CV game I ever played. Adventure ReBirth plays more like old school CV games, which I think most would agree are a lot harder.

Also, ReBirth is 1000 points (I think) while 4 is 800 points. 4 is a much longer game, so you'll be getting more bang for your buck.

I was sad too that the song wasn't in it when I started playing.
