Re: Which version, SNES or Genesis?
I found these videos onm the web last time we talked about Gen vs SNES I agree with most of his comments. Fatal Fury was $75 new when I first bought it from service merchandise. Now most of the SNK games were ported by different companies on the SNES and GEnesis.UBERTRON777 wrote:So what if I have a 6 button controller for the Genesis? Same verdict? And how do the SNK fighting games stack up to each other? I kind of thought that Samurai Shodown was better on the Genesis because of the larger sprites.
Fatal Fury looked/sounded better on the SNES but I will give it to the Genesis because it kept the multiplane fighting
Samurai Shodown Genesis is the better port kept again more like the arcade. I even like the sound better on the Genesis.
World Heros I can't say they are both bad. SNES looks/sounds milky, Genesis looks choppy.
Fatal Fury 2 I have to give it to the SNES this time much better then their first outing.
I Hate the shading on the Genesis versions.
Art of Fighting I have to give to the SNES again more like the arcade version with scaling intact
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

Yeah, I much preferred playing Samurai Showdown on the Genesis over the SNES.

SNES all the way...because your playing with POWER!
Re: Games better on Genesis than SNES?
I just wanted to respond here to a few things:
First, was the lane system taken out in the first Fatal Fury? It's been a while since I put it in, but I at least remember Fatal Fury 2 and Fatal Fury Special having it in the SNES versions.
Art of Fighting...I don't know.
Ballz 3D is slightly censored on the SNES, but the audio and graphics are far better than the Genesis version.
Best of the Best: Championship Karate looks better on the Genesis version in the videos I've seen(though that might just be the quality of the video), but it looks like it has fewer frames of animation than the SNES.
Brutal: Paws of Fury had better graphics and sound on the Genesis, but most folks who played it preferred the SNES since the 6-button controller was standard.
ClayFighter for the SNES had issues, but these were fixed in ClayFighter: Tournament Edition. Tournament Edition was never released for the Genesis version.
Deadly Moves for the Genesis is better than Power Moves for the SNES, though that's not saying much.
Double Dragon V had a bizarre control scheme on the Genesis version for the 3-button controller, so most folks went with the SNES.
Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story looks better on the SNES than the Genesis in my opinion.
Justice League Task Force uses vastly different art and music, though I feel the Genesis version sounds better, I prefer some of the darker SNES backgrounds. I couldn't say which plays better.
King of the Monsters is roughly identical on both, though several cities get name changes in the Genesis version.
King of the Monsters 2 is better on the Genesis.
Mortal Kombat goes to the Genesis, though Mortal Kombat II, III, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat III will go to the SNES.
Pit-Fighter is far better on the Genesis, but then again it's harder to be worse than the SNES version of Pit-Fighter.
Power Instinct has had modes removed from both the Super Nintendo and Genesis that were in the Super Famicom and Mega Drive versions. The Genesis version has a Battle Royale mode that the SNES version didn't get, along with a few extra options.
Primal Rage was heavily scaled down on both, though I believe the SNES version suffered heavier censorship.
Shaq Fu has more characters in the Genesis version, though the music is better in the SNES version.
Street Fighter games in general tended to be better on the SNES.
World Heroes...best in an MVS, but if I have to, SNES for me.
Just some of the fighting games that appeared on both.
