Only three systems have broken me, two due to were ID-10-T errors.
Launch PS2 - little brother shoved a fork in the controller ports and somehow broke them
80GB PS3 - Dad kept it in an enclosed space under the TV with three other game systems, a cable box, and a stereo receiver. He refused to move it, even after we reflowed the solder. Then he bought a Super Slim and a new shelf to put it on.
GBA SP - Backlight stopped working after. Somewhat annoying, so I sold it and got a new one. Nine years of gameplay! Quite possibly my most used system.

Best: NES top loader - I dont even have to blow the cartridges
Worst: Dreamcast - I guess it's my luck but I had about 4 Dreamcast systems crap out on me. I love you Dreamcast but damn!

Re: which console is the most reliable... which is the worst
I have to go against the grain of most people here and say Sony and Genesis have been the most reliable for me.
Both my original PS1 and launch PS2 worked like a charm until the day I sold them away, and my friend who bought off my PS2 is still using it fine as far as I know. My Genesis from back in the day is still going strong too, but it's picture isn't the greatest.
In terms of worst, waaaayyyyyy back when we had an NES it was the first console to ever crap out on me. Also my brother's Dreamcast apparently ran into issues and doesn't want to play games every so often.
Every person I know who owns or has owned an Xbox has had to get a new one at some point or another. One of the reasons I was never compelled to buy one.

Same here. But I discovered that they're not that difficult to repair. Really, once I knew what the problem was it took less than five minutes to fix it. The hard part was doing all those google searches to pinpoint what was wrong and since I fixed it, it's been running perfectly. Now I feel like a dope for badmouthing their unreliability. Oh well.Sideroller wrote:Every person I know who owns or has owned an Xbox has had to get a new one at some point or another. One of the reasons I was never compelled to buy one.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

I had four Xbox 360s. All failed. I even frankensteined two together which had different problems, performed additional mods to allow better cooling. Still RRoDed.
The only problems I ever had with Sony consoles were a result of their needing to be cleaned.
I have a Dreamcast that has issues with reading discs, to the point I've had to pull back on my DC gaming. D2 taxes it the worst (to the point I gave up playing), but I've seen it just give up on games like Illbleed, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, etc.
I have an NES in need of a pin replacement. I attempted to pull out the pins with a paperclip, to arbitrarily extend the shelf life, but unfortunately I was unsuccessful.
I have also seen a Sega Genesis model 1 crap out on reading games.

Re: which console is the most reliable... which is the worst
I've known several people with 360's that failed. I've even fixed a couple for old co-workers. One is still working, but the other failed again a few months in. My 360 I owned apparently started RRoDing on the guy I sold it to, but it was working before I shipped it. By far this is the system I have the worse track record with.
I own several PS3s, most had YLoD, but I repaired them. The ones I owned never overheated or YLoD, except for one. I let a friend use it and he had it locked up in a cabinet running ALL night. Then he couldn't figure out why MY original backward compatible PS3 no longer worked. Jerk...
I've ever only had one Dreamcast fail, and I got it in pretty bad shape. I think I announced it here on the forums when it went. My original Dreamcast from 2000/2001 is stick kickin' even after going through flood waters and a fire. I honestly can't believe the thing still works. Kick ass machine.
My original NES stopped working and would just give a white screen. I shoved it in the closet for a couple of years, pulled it out and dusted off, and presto! I'm not sure where it's at. I think it might have gotten eaten by Katrina as well.
Genesis never failed, and I played the damn thing every day for nearly a decade. Went up in flames in the same fire my Dreamcast survived.

My most durable console is my green n64 when i bought it there was mold and moss growing on and in it i cleaned it up and threw a game in has been working like a champ since. I have gone through multiple xbox 360's and worked on ps2's quite often.
Handheld wise the gameboy is nearly unkillable.

Don't blow in carts ever. That takes the pin problem and compounds it with corrosion caused by moisture in your breath.Sasha_Blue wrote:Best: NES top loader - I dont even have to blow the cartridges

Re: which console is the most reliable... which is the worst
I heard the Saturn was extremely reliable . I think the difference between reliable consoles and least reliable ones has to do with the technology more than manufacturing quality. I think it is only normal for CD drives to fail more often the a cartridge based console. The more complicated high tech it gets the more likely it will fail.
Of course , we then have just plain bad quality like the 360

Thanks, makes more sense.Hobie-wan wrote:Don't blow in carts ever. That takes the pin problem and compounds it with corrosion caused by moisture in your breath.Sasha_Blue wrote:Best: NES top loader - I dont even have to blow the cartridges
I would also like to note that I still have my original Xbox 360 and it has not failed on me! I bought a fan for my Xbox 360, maybe that's why it still runs good.
