Why do you favor the Windows OS?

Mac does have Final Cut Pro HD, which is the definitive HD multicam editing software. Avid HD still has a boatload of issues and stutters in multicam HD - I will apologize if that information is out of date, I have not played with the standalone avid blade yet). It is the only reason I would want a more up to date Mac.

My Imac may actually become a PC in the near future. Its a G3 so the DIVERS looking one.

Niode wrote:kevinski, by your argument Windows 7 should be a service pack too but it's not and offers no more changes than the upgrade from Tiger to Leopard. You clearly don't use macs so you wouldn't know how big a change Leopard was. That amount of extra functionality I had no qualms about paying £35. I wish I could pay that little for Windows upgrades.
XP, Vista and 7 are all drastically different from one another. XP, for example, has a far less robust kernel than Vista and 7. Furthermore, Vista stuck far closer to XP in terms of overall design, but it obviously looks a lot nicer. The changes aren't skin-deep, however, because Vista - no matter what anyone may want to say about it - utilizes resources in far more intelligent ways than XP could ever hope to muster. These aren't minor optimization tweaks.

And do you really think that Vista and 7 are so similar? Really, I wouldn't call completely overhauling the shell something that would be worthy of being deemed a service pack. I'd honestly prefer that service packs stick to improving security and stability, and that's generally what Windows service packs do. I don't want my user interface changed after installing a service pack.

Also, given the fact that Microsoft even took the time to update Calculator, Paint and Wordpad with new functionality and improved user interfaces should go to show just how much attention they're paying to what's pre-installed. The only downside is that a lot of software that was previously built into Windows will be separate downloads this time around, thanks to a lot of whiny bitches who cry whenever Microsoft adds anything into Windows.
Niode wrote:I use my Windows rig for gaming. That's it. A little word processing every now and then but I don't do anything productive because I know for a fact that I can get the job done ten times quicker on my Mac. I use my mac for Logic Studio and Final Cut Studio. You can't get these programs for Windows, although to be honest. I don't think I'd want them. They work very well on mac and I even prefer Pro Tools on Mac too, a sizeable amount of users in my field (audio technology) feel the same way too. Studio after studio that I go into are all running Mac Pro's. I wonder why that is?
And I'm not saying that Final Cut Studio isn't great software, but there's plenty of high-end video software out there available for Windows PC's that - for a lot of people - produces amazing results. It's honestly a matter of taste. As I've said before, software doesn't make a project. As much as I can't stand Sony, I must say that their multimedia software is amazing. (To be fair, Sonic Foundry made the software what it is, and Sony kinda took over from there.) I've seen some amazing projects made with Vegas. Also, Adobe does a great job of keeping its customers satisfied.

Not everyone needs Final Cut Studio. That (and the other related software titles) is honestly all that Macs have going for them, and it's not as though people can't get along without them. And video production is nothing without solid 3D modeling and animation, and that's still something that's best done on a PC. You're taking one tiny piece of the pie and trying to pass it off as something significant. Sure, it's great software, but Windows can handle any task thrown at it, because it still has plenty of other VERY competitive options.

Windows have more software and its not like Macs are invulnerable to viruses so...I'd have to say that Windows is better. Besides most people happen to make more freeware games for windows.

Mac vs Windows kinda reminds me of the Wii vs PS3. One is simple, reliable and underpowered. The other is complex, takes more knowledge to use properly and great for games. However, unlike the gaming consoles, Mac is more expensive.

I think Mac is fine for someone new to computers and/or someone not interested in games. Windows is cheaper plus has more potential at the end of the day.

Personally speaking, I like games, am pretty good with computers and I like money, so Windows works out good for me.

And one last thing that really bothers me when I hear it used incorrectly, PC means Personal Computer. Computers using the Mac OS are still personal computers. Just because a computer is running a Mac OS, doesn't mean it stops being a computer. It's the same as saying "Mac vs Computers".

I tend to consider PC to refer to Linux- or Windows-based PC's. Apple obviously doesn't like its computers to be thought of as PC's, as is evident in their ads. It's amusing, because there really used to be a considerable amount of difference in their architecture, but they're really on even ground as far as hardware goes (aside from the obvious lack of choices on the Mac side).

I prefer to use Linux. For one, I like the idea of Live CDs; I can't tell you how many times my Knoppix DVD has saved my system after a huge crash. Also, I like it for it's most obvious advantage; it's free. I can download a new version of any Linux OS legally without paying hundreds of dollars. Also, the package manager is a tremendously useful feature; I use it quite often.

I drive a Toyota but don't consider it an automobile. I'm wearing Nikes and don't like to think of them as shoes. I eat Carls Jr for lunch everyday and never eat fast food. People can say or believe whatever they want but that doesn't make them right or correct.
