Re: Wii Sales Concerns

Post by the7k »

I think I realize why I don't care for the Wii anymore. Looking at my PS3 collection, the games I play most often include: Warhawk, Unreal Tournament III, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Burnout Paradise, SF2HD... among others, but those I listed are important because they all have a very strong online component.

When it comes to "Bang for your buck", online games give you a lot more than traditional ones; I'm sure I've clocked enough hours on Unreal Tournament III alone to kill off 5 Wii games. While I have played some online multiplayer Wii games (Smash Bros and Mario Kart), the experience was pretty lacking. The most impressive online game I've heard of for the Wii seems to be Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, but it seemed to suffer from other problems.

So, I think if Nintendo got a really solid online system going on - and didn't keep it to themselves - then the Wii would be getting more usage from me.

They might. After all, you don't work for Nintendo and aren't calling the shots. It will all depend on the sales of Wii Sports Resort.

True, now if only they'd bundle it with a game. I'm not paying $20 for an accessory I don't need.
My Consoles:

It is bundled with a game. Wii Sports Resort. In all reality that may be the most appropriate thing to bundle it with, not just from a sales point and getting it into lots of households, but also because there are 10 games, all of which I imagine are quite varied. It will give people a chance to really experiment and play with its capabilities. If it were debuted in a game like Zelda, it might only be only used a little bit every few minutes, like with a boomerang or something. I think its fine being packaged with Wii Sports Resort, though I would like to see it integrated into the actual Wii Remote in the future instead of as a clip on.

Did it finally get settled? I haven't looked into the Wii motion plus in a while, due to the fact that it hasn't interested me much.

Its being released on the 12th june to line up with the launch of EA's Grand Slam Tennis which will use it. I think Wii Sports Resort is out about a month later and that will come packaged with the add on. The new Virtua Tennis game will also be using it although I dont know when that is out of the top of my head.

Personally I'm looking forward to it and I hope it works as well as it appears to work.

I heard rumblings that Nintendo was going to revise the Wii Sports bundle to include Wii Sports Resort and the motion plus adaptor when you buy a new Wii. It would make sense to me by actually bundling something extra. It serves the purpose of a price drop since you are getting more value. Then again, Nintendo could afford not to bother dropping the price, they haven't changed the RRP on the DS lite despite there being an 'upgrade' available. So who knows.

That would make sense to do, but I think it would be less profitable than just selling it separately. If they did that they would also have to release Wii Sports in its own package here in the US, which is something they do not currently do.

Wait there's a Virtua Tennis game coming out for this thing? I'm definitely sold if the control execution is spot on.

I am not sure why Nintendo is even releasing this Motion Plus, a 2.5 years already passed...as we know it , its like a new console every 5 years...That keeps like only 2.5 years for developers to start thinking about a game and producing them...and games take a long time to produce.

I think the Wii failed gamers and won non-gamers....I can see the business view point of this though.

Good games DO exist on the wii but they are so little in number, which gave the Wii the reputation of crap games machine. I do not think any other console out there had any kind of success and had this kind of reputation. As I said before , I do not mind the crap-ware, I mind the lack of quality-ware .

What is painful is that the Wii is capable of a lot more. Just imagine with me. Lets imagine that games of last generation skipped the gamecube, and we have on the Wii for the first time RE4 or Eternal Darkness, or the remake of metal gear. Imagine if games like Bully of last generation was Wii exclusive, or Ninja Gaiden Black, all those games are last generation games and they all beat the crap out of current Wii games except for a handful of games. The Wii cant even compete with last generation games!?(quality wise)

I thought motion control was going to be used in the gameplay like it is in Wii Sport, NMH, and Red Steel. It seems its just a stupid novelty like shake the wii mote till the end of the race, move it side ways to chose the next level.

I Lost hope, maybe next generation the 360 would bring us this kind of gaming. The gaming we hoped would be for the Wii back in 2006.
