LMAO! Just kidding. Those are the 2 WORST N64 games ever.

I LOVED Hexen 64 and Doom 64 :)

I love those type of games :D
I actually just bought AeroGuage.. lol I remember renting it and beating it and wondered why it was so damn short. But playing again, its still fun for what it has, learning how to turbo boost takes some getting used to but after you utilize it you go REALLY FAST holy crap. And Racing as a N64 controller is so awesome! The game is playable and can be fun, unlike Superman...

------------

Favorite games in order: (order comes from a combination of the time it was first played and the impact it had on my daily gaming of the time)

Super Mario 64
Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask
Star Fox 64
Perfect Dark
Super SMASH Bros.
Mario Kart 64
Diddy Kong Racing
Banjo-Kazooie
Conker's Bad Fur Day

These would be what I'd call the best titles on the system and replayable all the time.
Everything else I own falls in the collective 2nd place.

I learned about the game Sin and Punishment from the N64 hidden gems list on this site. That game kicks ass. Some of the later battles where you are gunning from the open bay door of a jet fighter provide incredible action, even by modern day standards.

Unfortunately I never owned a N64, skipped from snes to ps2 heh heh...

Anyways I still played it at friends houses and rented one a couple of times:

Perfect Dark
Bomber man 64 1&2
Star Fox
Diddy Kong racing
Clayfighter 64(at least when I first played it. In retrospect the first one sucked hard for the snes. Haven't played the 64 one since 1999.)
Goldeneye
and I can't remember playing any others

*Note* I have played Mario 64 for the DS and it rocks.

Nah, part of the appeal was based on their innovation for the time. Games in those genres have really gone above and beyond since then, so some of the affect is lost, though I would argue that they're still worth playing. I figure it's really one of those "you had to be there" moments.

I think GoldenEye was the first multiplayer first person shooter for those of us who weren't PC gamers. For me controller > mouse, plus I thought the trigger placement was perfect, something that was lacking on the dual shock controllers.

PresidentLeever wrote:The thing about GoldenEye was that I couldn't get used to the controls, I never liked the N64 joypad much and couldn't see how anyone could prefer this game to playing Quake 2, Counterstrike, Tribes or Unreal Tournament on the PC. It was still a blast to play though, if you could gather up 3 other people for a deathmatch.

Having played both A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening to death when OOT arrived, I was pretty much fed up with the gameplay formula, and the storyline, while a lot more fleshed out, is really just a retelling of the same old story we all knew. Add to that the slow start of the game, and the relatively cramped overworld.. Well, it just left me a bit disappointed.

As for Mario 64, the main reason is that I didn't like the change of focus. It's more about exploration and item collection than the 2D games, and besides that I'm not really satisfied with the controls.
Personally, I would have said the same thing about Goldeneye a few weeks back, but having played it again recently, I think it's a blast! I've really gotten used to the controls now. I remember now why the N64 controller used to be my favourite - I know, I know. I find the controllers to be fine as long as one isn't required to use the L button and the D-Pad - so only the right side of the controller is used. Fortunately, this is the case with Goldeneye, as R does the same as L, and the C arrows the same as the D-Pad.
Playing Goldeneye again makes me want to get reacquainted with Perfect Dark. I must play that game again...

On that note, I also recently decided to carry on where I left off in Ocarina of Time - having finally figured out where I was and what I'm supposed to be doing; blasphemous as it is, I got pretty far but have never completed Ocarina of Time. Boy, that game is awesome! I'm really enjoying it. I enjoy it almost as much as I did when I first played it - although, to note, I don't think I had played any other Zelda games when I first played it.

To finish up, Mario 64. This is one game I find hard to get into. I pop it in occasionally and am never able to get much enjoyment out of it. Perhaps all of these games are 'you'd have to have been there' kind of games, and this is why I can't get into Mario 64. Whereas I bought an N64 at the time to play Goldeneye, and got Ocarina of Time not long after, I didn't play Mario 64 until this year.

Mario 64 DS Is really nothing like the original. It was either too easy at times or incredibly frustrating the rest of the time. The original had MARIO and that was it, No Yoshi, No Wario, No Luigi, and No gimmicky BS.

As a game alone though Mario 64 is pretty decent.
