RPG Progress Report
Re: RPG Progress Report
Yeah, I've been playing the DS translation. I can't remember where I left off; the last salient thing in my memory was a volcano dungeon; I don't remember if I was still stuck on it or just finished it.

Did you ever finish 7th Dragon? I remember you were playing it at one point.MrPopo wrote:Yeah, I've been playing the DS translation. I can't remember where I left off; the last salient thing in my memory was a volcano dungeon; I don't remember if I was still stuck on it or just finished it.

I've beaten 7th Dragon III but not the original; I'm only a little of the way in the original and I'm running an all Princess party, so I need more grinding.

Did the DS version have any voice acting in it? The Vita version has a fair amount, but I'm curious on if it was always there.MrPopo wrote:Yeah, I've been playing the DS translation. Also, another note on this game compared to Hearts R. You can kinda tell that Hearts R was remade second because of just objectively better improvements it has. I mentioned before that Innocence R has a lot of unvoiceacted skits. I mention this because very nearly every one (that I came across) in Hearts R was voice acted. Another thing is that the controls aren't as customizable.
There was a certain way you could configure battles to play in Hearts R where the L-stick would move you backwards and forwards, and holding L would allow you to freerun. This changed it from the normal configuration where D-pad moves back and forward and the L-analog just freeruns. You don't have that first thing as an option in Innocence R, so I gotta use that second option, which I'm far less used to compared to like ALL the console installments

Innocence DS is voiced; the fan translation includes subtitles in battle in addition to the standard subs you'd expect for cutscenes. I don't remember if everything was voiced or not; I haven't played it in many years.

Update: Crisis averted, I was actually like literally a minute from meeting Wonder Chef for the first time, so he IS in the game. No reason to panic, everyone

Re: RPG Progress Report
I finished Pony Quest last night. Expect a (probably fairly in-depth) review posted in the Games Beaten thread this evening.

Who ended up doing the most damage in the last fight? Your Fighter or your Blackbelt?

Re: RPG Progress Report
GameFAQs tells me I'm just over halfway through Tales of Zestiria in terms of the story beats, and I think I'm growing to hate the combat more and more as I go on. Like, to the point where I'm skipping as many fights as I can and I'm worried I'm going to hit a brick wall in the future when I'm massively underleveled. The story looks like it's going to be hitting an interesting turn when it decides to analyze the role I'm playing (and I'm getting some hits to that effect already). But the combat; I just dread every battle because it's just an absolute clusterfuck.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Rub Our Naughty Bits Together (PSP)
At 6.5 hours in, I made it to Chapter 2. I'm not sure how many battles that was, but I did flub it on Balmamusa, lost that one the first time. Aced it the second, my next battle is Xeod Moors. I think I'm doing decent for someone who didn't RTFM. I'm sure I'm already missing out on plenty of extra character perks and secret items and such, but if I can get by without using a strategy guide to know about such things, all the better.
Gotta admit I was taken back by the Chariot Tarot mechanic.
Letting the player rewind time in battle if they screw up their tactics? Ugh, it's basically built-in cheating. I haven't used it yet, and I don't plan to. Far as I know the original TO didn't have that, so I don't want to have anything to do with it.
