I don't know that that's entirely fair to Star Ocean 3. I quite enjoyed the game up until the last third of the game. The difficulty jumps sky-high and the game expects you to abuse the crafting system to survive. It also has the best-worst (worst-best?) plot twist in perhaps all of gaming. (No, seriously, it's stupid. I just can't decide it it's just stupid, or Ernest P. Worrell stupid, which is awesome.)

It's just a game that, in my mind, needed some serious balancing. So, you know, a tri-Ace game.

While the story is decent so far(only a hour in), the camera works against me half the time especially during that first reactor section.... Not to mention I apparently need a new controller since this one is doing that super fast switching in the sub-menus of the menu that I have no control over where it lands(heck during the materia tutorial it had it acted like I was pressing O to advance but I wasn't so I couldn't read it until I flipped the analog halfway in....
How after an hour can you decide it's overrated? Or even if the story is good.

That controller really doesn't sound helpful.

I think 7 is probably overrated but not for no reason. It was the start of a huge glut of 3D JRPGs

It was also the first Final Fantasy for the generation, which in turn meant it was a lot of people's first one. Those tend to get the biggest followings (Final Fantasy, II/IV, VII, X, etc).

@flash: I just don't see how anyone can love a game like it so much when the camera especially on that reactor section is put in the worst possible place. But the story though I can at least admit I do like so far.

I agree that FF7 is overrated, but that's only because it's been elevated to divine status by fans. It's still an AMAZING JRPG and my favorite of the series (of the ones I've played, anyway), but I don't think it's the greatest game ever made or even the greatest JRPG ever made.

Yeah I wish they'd given more thought to that camera and then so far I might be agreeing with them but when I can't see and end up walking back a map I have to disagree with that status no matter how well the other parts of it might play...

Eh, it's good. Sometimes great. But it's all a matter of perspective. I was disappointed because I'd waited so long to play it, and I was coming off of Chrono Trigger. Yeah, you guys know how I feel about that one.

It's certainly not worthy of divinity like some would claim, but it's also not garbage like the haters would have you believe. Welcome to the Internet, where the only two valid opinions lie at the extremes! ;)

FF7 is Playstations Ocarina of Time. They so called unflappable pillar of excellence that if you don't agree that it's perfect you got some mental problem or just are blind to the facts despite what your non-fanboy clear mind and eyes tell you. FF7 is average and Ocarina isn't the best Zelda, best 3D Zelda or even best N64 title either. People try and lean on ratings, especially from the media, but we all know how flawed that is when they're very guilty of anything from sucking up to being paid off.
