How is your Saturn gaming going?
Re: How is your Saturn gaming going?
Lol no noise I'm asking if I should even bother getting the Saturn ports since I own them for other systems. I won't sell my games.

Now once i get my everdrives for the snes and genesis after my taxes come in, I need to get the action replay 4in1 cart and that's a must. Second I need to get the sega saturn 3 pak along with that nice sega saturn controller that sega came out with that resembles the japan sega saturn controller.
Now here is where I'm stuck. In my possession, I own most of the 2d fighters and the 2d shmups for the ps1. I also own a large number of the ps2 2d fighters and shmups. Now since I know that the saturn is a 2d powerhouse is there any reason to get these titles also for the saturn. Like is there any difference between ports for these games. Now I am on a very tight budget like all of us so i am looking for disc only. I would just figured i would ask instead of blowing my money for no reason. like right now that i can think of i own these titles that i have for either ps1 or ps2 that are also ported to the saturn
Street fighter anthology ps2, and i own all 3 for psone.
king of fighters orchi collection ps2
street fighter collection ps1
mega man 8 ps1
mega man x4 ps1
mk trilogy ps1
mk2 (have mk2 for the snes)
In the hunt
Marvel super heroes
x men cota
xmen vs street fighter
marvel vs street fighter
elevator action returns (Taito legends 2)
I cant think of anymore. Unless the games are night and day I wont even bother.
I do know that i need to get the xmen vs street fighter and the marvel vs street fighter but other than those and differences that what i already own?
Careful, mas. You're falling into old habits. I don't recommend collecting expensive Sega Saturn games. Just concentrate on Sega Genesis for your Sega collection. That's a far more affordable option.
Samson, I have the snes and Genesis everdrives coming in a month or so. I'm all set on those.
Also the main games I want for the Saturn are these
Virtua fighter 2
Daytona
Virtua cop 1,2
Die hard arcade ( if I find it cheap)
Sega touring car
World Series 2, 98
Last Bronx
I was just asking about the Saturn ports since I have the games on the ps1/ps2 if it's even worth picking up
Re: How is your Saturn gaming going?
So I answered my own question. Looking at a lot of the comparisons, there's no reason to buy any ports for the Saturn when I have mostly better versions of the game. Well except for the marvel vs street fighter, Xmen Cota, and Xmen vs street fighter. Gotta get those bad boys maybe by summer
Re: How is your Saturn gaming going?
While on the topic of 2D arcade ports on the Saturn, I continued going through my catalog library of games over the week, (mostly ps1,2, DC and Saturn stuff). As a result I began playing some of these games particularly 2D fighters on Saturn. Alpha 2, Vampire Hunter, Vampire Savior, and a game I haven't played in quite some time, Galaxy Fight.
Galaxy Fight. As much as I want to like this game, I really hate it. Remember buying this game well over 12 years ago and I remember buying it because the price was so damn cheap.
I like some of the music and few of the character designs like Gunter, Rolf, Juri. But the problem with the game is that its play mechanics are so unrefined and quite frankly absurd. The game has no corners on the playfield, ever. So levels scroll infinitely if the defender wishes too retreat for as long as they want. This also renders nearly all projectiles useless in the game.
That's only the beginning on why this game feels terrible to me.
Alpha 2. Game is still as good of a port as I remember it to be. Aside from the short loadtimes, low quality audio and few frames of animation being sacrificed, it's still a grear effort for its time. The console exclusive Gallery art mode is a nice perk.
Savior. I just recently got this game just last year. Was never a priority for me as I was never much into vsav up until recently and even then I had DS Resurrection 360 release to play and learn the game with. Nevertheless, i'm glad to finally add this version to my collection simply to play around with and IMO is the best 2D fighter to make use of the 4MB Cart on the Saturn.
Hunter. It's sequel may be the better game in the flagship series, but I find the Saturn port of Hunter to be the most charming on the platform and the most impressive of the 2 ports. I mean, we did get this game stateside (as Night Warriors) and remember some of the hype surrounding it's US release from a few publications at the time. It's an impressive effort considering how amazing the 2D visuals and how well it runs on th Saturn without the aid of any expansion upgrade. I still somewhat regret having sold my US copy. Luckily I have import version to fill the void

XvSF and MSHvSF on the Saturn vs PSX is kinda like comparing apples to oranges that have been rotting for the last three days and were dropped in dog crap.
Friends don't let friends play PSX ports of tag-team Capcom fighters.

XvsSF on PS1 is complete crap. Its incredibly choppy and slowdown at every turn. With that said each successive release in the series on the PS1 kept improving in quality. MSHvSF and MvC1 were fairly decent. They were playable had decent extras thrown in. But yeah, there is only so much the hardware was able to handle.
CvS1Pro on PS1 is shit tho

Re: How is your Saturn gaming going?
I might look into getting the night warriors, but the Xmen vs street fighter and the marvel vs street fighter games I will pick up in a few months. Other than those games I actually didn't mind cap on vs snk pro for the ps1. It's by no means the dreamcast version but it's not a bad port

Unless you don't already own Vampire collection (PS2) or DSR (360/PS3), i'd recommend it. Vampire Hunter in particular is fairly cheap on Saturn.
It's a terrible port for me. Degraded visuals everywhere, choppy animation, terrible audio, and chopped up win quote texts, load time after EVERY round. Game had no business being ported to PS1.
Re: How is your Saturn gaming going?
Vampire collection cd ages? I never seen it. Is it a us release? And if not how the hell can I get my ps2 to play imports. Would rather pay the price for all 3 instead of getting just dark stalkers revenge especially that the ps2 would have the better ports instead of the ps1 or Saturn.
I play cap on vs snk pro on my ps1 screen and it looks good on that

Re: How is your Saturn gaming going?
Yes, Vampire Collection. No it was not released in the US. No, not 3 games but actually 5 games total (Hunter 2 and Savior 2). Better than PS1? Yes. Better that Saturn? That's a matter of opinion and to me that is a no. This PS2 compilation has one major flaw in that Vs. Mode has input lag so every game in it is deemed unplayable for competitive purposes.
Correct me if i'm wrong but aren't you supposed to be gaming on a strict budget these days?
Just get Darkstalkers Resurrection for 360 or PS3. It has the 2 most popular games in the series, and best of all its real cheap and excellent ports to boot.
