I just made another GameStop run, this time at the larger location, and I think it was more successful. I got:

Phantom Brave: We Meet Again - $4.49
Ninjabread Man - $0.89
Mythmakers: Trixie in Toyland - $0.89
Mercury Meltdown: Revolution - $0.89
Glacier 2 - $2.69
Chicken Blaster - $2.69
Total - $12.54 for 6 games!

It's funny, I was looking online for some Wii games I might want to get and game across Phantom Brave. I thought it sounded interesting, so I put it on my list. Coincidentally, they had one copy there. I was surprised to see it's low price tag. The guy at the counter told me it's an awesome game lol.

The rest of the purchases were just "this one looks neat for the price." Never heard of any of them. But I mean, come on! Ninjabread Man? That sounds awesome! Mercury Meltdown is a puzzle type game, and I can't remember if it's the one I saw in Metal Jesus' Wii Hidden Gems video. If it's not that game, it looks really similar. Glacier 2 is a racing type game. It has the steering wheel on the back, I just hope it can also be controlled without motion controls. Myth Makers looks like it has kiddie graphics, but it also looks like it could be a fun 3D platformer. And Chicken Blaster is a lightgun type game. But really, when a game is under a buck, I'll take the gamble. Price doesn't mean good or not, considering Phantom Brave was only $5 and is suppose to be good.

I'm still trying to find the Nyko Perfect Shot or at least something similar to it. They really didn't have any Wii accessories there.

Now it's sticker removal time

Awesome. I have been searching for this one, but there is not a copy near me.

Sadly, I think you will be surprised how much you overpaid for these games. At least Ninjabread Man is a unique concept and has a fun title.

This is a fun game, and it is a steal at that price.

.....

Some other $0.89 games you should consider (if you can find them):

Furu Furu Park - A collection of Taito-themed arcade and mini-games? Yes, please!
Geom Cube - A fun, original puzzle game.
Heavenly Guardian - A sprite-based spiritual successor to Pocky & Rocky!
Neopets Puzzle Adventure - Puzzle Quest for kids!
Ocean Commander - A 2d multi-directional shmup
Octomania - Another fun puzzle game.
Offshore Tycoon - A fishing "tycoon" game.
Samba De Amigo - A classic Sega music and rhythm game.
Spy Fox - A classic PC adventure game from Ron Gilbert's Humongous Entertainment.
SSX Blur - One of the best entries in the SSX series.
Super Fruit Fall - Yet another fun puzzle game.
Ultimate Board Game Collection - The title says it all.
Vertigo - If you like Mercury Meltdown Revolution, you will like this. Plus, it supports the Wii Balance Board!

All of these games have their flaws, but at $0.89, they are great deals. (You could get all 13 for just $11.57!)

Oh no!

But really, I paid full retail ($50) for Far Cry Vengeance when it came out. Actually, I think that was my first Wii game purchase (not counting Wii Sports). That's #1 on my list of worst game purchases ever, and it'll be hard to beat. Horrible graphics, even worse looking cut scenes (looks like N64 graphics), buggy as all hell. It's $2.69 used at GameStop, and I don't even think it's worth that. It's perhaps worth $0.89, but only if you've already played ever other FPS on the Wii and just NEED something else.

So considering my experience with that, I doubt I'll be let down much by Ninjabread Man or Myth Makers.

edit: So wow, Ninjabread Man and Myth Makers are pretty horrible games. It's funny though. I was just going through the games one by one and testing them. I played Ninjabread Man, then another game or two, then Myth Makers. While playing Myth Makers I was thinking, "Wow, this looks an aweful lot like Ninjabread Man!" I look at the cases, go figure, they're both made by the same people.

These games suck, yes. But two good things keep me from regretting their purchase. One, the case to Myth Makers is mint. The stickers came off cleanly and it looks brand new. It's the perfect replacement case. I'll have to clean a little sticker residue off of Ninjabread Man, but it too is a decent replacement case. And two, they seem like great games for some one 5-8 years old. I don't have kids, and my youngest cousins are already too old for them, but I'll have them find a good home. There's a few people on the forums here with young kids, perhaps I'll put them in my BST thread as freebies.

Chicken Blaster isn't horrible, but it seems to be geared more towards a younger audience. Case is pretty mint, so same as above applies. It's really not bad, but with so many other lightgun type games on the Wii, I don't see myself ever playing it.

Glacier 2 seems like a pretty fun game, however, I didn't see any option to use traditional controls for steering. I absolutely hate motion controls for racing games! Otherwise, it seemed really fun. Racing and blowing shit up, what's not fun about that?

Mercury Meltdown is pretty much exactly what I expected it to be. I pick up and go puzzle game that's sort of like Labyrinth or something.

Did you get an extra disc with your copy of Phantom Brave? Mine came with a bonus artwork disc which I totally wasn't expecting given the low price.

Try Kmart. I'm pretty sure you can find brand new ones there for around $5.

Unlike the PS2 version, play it with an Arcade stick: viewtopic.php?p=567186#p567186

Stick with it, the combine the colors adds a new element over the traditional Monkeyball or Labrinth game.

Yes, it did come with the bonus disc!

There's not a K-Mart too close to my house, and the two closest locations are in opposite directions from my house. Still, there's one that's not too much of a trip and I'm pretty sure there's a GameStop in that shopping center as well. Maybe I'll make an excuse to go there so I can hit up yet another GameStop.

While I usually hate motion controls, they kinda work perfectly for this game. This is the rare situation that I might actually prefer motion controls.

It's always interesting to speculate which games will be rare, even early in a console's life cycle. In the Wii's case, it's not too early imo, but prices could certainly change in a few years.

...does anyone actually expect Pandora's Tower to rise? I mean, Xenoblade sure did, and i guess Last Story's first ed is harder to come by now, but i dunno.

Despite a horrible glitch at the end of the game, I adored Pandora's Tower. I could see it, The Last Story, and Xenoblade Chronicles becoming collector's items. (I think that Xenoblade Chronicles will remain the most expensive.) Some other games I anticipate gaining value are: Arc Rise Fantasia, Dokapon Kingdom, Fragile Dreams, and Opoona (which realy has nowhere to go but up). Only time will tell which games end up collector's items, however.

I am old enough to remember when you couldn't give away copies of Earthbound. (I bought a new copy of the game for $10; spent some time it; didn't like it; and later traded it back in for $10, which at the time seemed like an awesome deal.) Accordingly - and given the breadth of the Wii's library - it will be interesting to see which games become cult classics. (There are a lot of $4.99 and under games that I am trying to track down at local Gamestops - such as Princess Isabella, Rock Blast, Aqua Panic, etc. - that simply are not available locally. While I am not sure any of these will ever be valuable, they are certainly, based on my observations, much, much rarer than Xenoblade Chronicles.)
