What shmup are you playing now?

I think those games are very shmup'ish, but for my collecting purposes (as I'm focusing on shmups), I only count forced scrolling shoot 'em ups.

Cannon Spike is still sick shit though. Gotta love Psikyo!

So you wouldn't count defender or fantasy zone as shmups? [/pedantic]

Theres also Geometry wars which I'd definitely consider a shmup, but is in the same sort of top down arena style. I guess games just have a lot of genre crossover, and the dividing lines are a bit blurry.

Thats a toughie. I mean, its not forced scrolling, but forced movement is near enough that I'd count em.

The reason I try to draw a line for myself, is I'd be collecting way too many games if I didn't.

Something like sub-terrania for the genesis wouldn't be counted for me.

Cannon Spike... Hmm, not sure. Very borderline.

Contra has a lot in common with shmups (one hit death, constant firepower, bombs, powerups) In a way it seems more like a shmup than defender, yet I still wouldn't count it (since its its own sub genre)

It's the cheapest I can give them for. Otherwise I'm losing money on them myself. Bought the last 20 LEs that were available. First and last time I invested money in an unreleased game. For once I wanted to be on the other side of collecting and make some money to fund my own collection. Due to the game having some glitches and it being mediocre in general that kinda backfired on me. Oh well, lesson learned... lol

Me personally I don't even like DUX that much. Especially after playing Border Down, Under Defeat, Radirgy, Karous, etc...

The soundtrack on the other hand I like. If you can find a download, do yourself a favour and have a listen...

I am somehow looking forward to that new DC shooter though. that one looks fucking sweet!...

And yeah, the guy that developed DUX is a dick. There, I said it...
