I honestly can't remember, I'm sure you'll figure it out though. Did you beat the original Shadow Tower before this? I only ask because there's some stuff in Abyss that won't make as much sense if you haven't. The last boss especially is tied to a particular character from the original game.

I haven't. I probably will get around playing it eventually. It's a shame to lose things because of not playing it before but i don't want to take break from Abyss now to play it.

Just beat the NES Final Fantasy. For lulz I loaded my old Dawn of Souls file and, wow, I forgot how easy they made for the game for the GBA. It's an absolute cakewalk.

As for "playing right now" I dunno.... May try to squeeze in a quick one before May Together Retro.

Fighter, Black Belt, White Mage, Black Mage.

I'm not very original. Though I find the classes to be quite unbalanced on NES, with the Thief and Red Mage being the worst two. I've used a Thief in the super-easy GBA port, but have NEVER played as a Red Mage. Humorously, my daughter just started her own playthrough and was insistent on including a Red Mage (who she swears is a girl like her).

I'm entertaining the idea of someday including two Fighters in my party. The Black Belt is solid but his ass defense can be a pain. Two Fighters would be expensive initially, but after the class change and acquisition of status-effect-blocking items a Fighter is basically invincible.

I was probably overleveled in this playthrough. Hit the Peninsula of Power™ a few times. But the best place to grind: the perpetually respawning Eye in the Ice Cave. Go there after the class change and acquisition of armor that blocks status effects. The fight can be won, repeatedly, in like three seconds with no damage taken. "Only" 800XP or so per battle, but it adds up quickly with minimal effort. Got my characters up to level 34 before entering the final dungeon, was level 37 at Chaos. Piece of cake; he was taken out by a few whacks from the Fighter and Black Belt.

Beat Shadow Tower Abyss last friday and i'm back on playing first Xenoblade. I got from start of the Eryth Sea to start of Sword Valley over the weekend so i'm making good progress. I'm getting less exited about the gameplay but story is still keeping me hooked.

Latley I've been playing Atelier Escha & Lodgy. Not particularly far yet (just finished the 3rd assignment) but I'm really enjoying it so far. It's got a lot of little changes that make everything so much nicer, like not having to worry about item quality and having consumables replenish when you return home. Also a countdown that says when the next deadline is yessss! (Not that I super need it so far since the tasks are fairly easy to complete right now)

Progression is probably going to be slow with school and such, but I definitely can't wait to play some more.

It's shame that thing got so much better with E&L but after it's been downhill again in most regards. I wish they would have just refined E&L alchemy system in future games because it was really good system. It's not too hard to understand but there's a lot of depth to it.

Aw that's too bad :( I'm going to play the newer games anyway (at least until a point that I start not liking them), but the previous Atelier games were nice since they kept on making more and more improvements each game.

Since I'm out in LA and having to work a film festival, I figured I would play something that I can easily pace out. I gave my fiancee a handful of titles, and she suggested Dragon Wars. Since I likely won't be done with this by the time May comes around, this may end up being a TR game for me.

So far, I have escaped Purgatory...which pretty much already puts me further along than I was as a kid. Being 8 and trying to figure this out was tough. I'm doing much better already.

That game is solid. Wish we had gotten the Famicom version over here.
