I wish I knew about this earlier in the summer because I definitely would have participated. My summer so far I have beaten 44 games (since the school year ended) Of those 44 the ones that are games that I have always wanted to play but never did are: (and none of these would be considered a classic)

1) Dynowarz (nes)
2) batman return of the joker (nes)
3) Ikari warriors 3 (nes)
4) gradius 3 (snes)

Classics that I have replayed this summer are:
1) blaster master (nes) (after finishing zero on the switch)
2) bionic commando (nes) (forgot how epic the end of this game is)
3) super castlevania 4 (snes, which I play through at least once a year)
4) Contra(nes)
5) Super C

The rest of the games I played this summer were a mostly indie titles with a handful of more modern games sprinkled in.

44 games? Wow, that's some dedication! I miss having summer holidays where I had the time and motivation to play games like that.

Did you use any Save states or anything? Blaster Master is no joke

Yeah, I am a middle school principal which means summers are super easy for me and I have tons of time to play games, which is awesome, I also had knee surgery about 2 weeks ago, which means I am pretty much forced to sit home and play games all day, I'm not complaining though ; )

I use save states when I need to walk away and do other things, blaster master is actually a pretty easy game, it is just extremely time consuming and if you don't know where to go, not realistic to finish in one sitting. The only time I died in my playthrough was the final boss, until I figured out you can just stand in the corner and throw grenades at him and he cant hurt you.

I always used to have trouble with the stage 5 boss, but that's because I never had my gun fully powered I think. I'm playing through the game now and making sure to note down good grinding areas as I progress.

Don't forget the grenade trick, throw a grenade, pause the game when the enemy is flashing, wait 25-30 seconds and unpause. It auto kills the bosses of level 2, 4, 6, and 7.

Stage 5 boss is tough, the trick is to just hit and run, kill him one grenade at a time if your guns are not fully charged. He is probably the toughest boss in the game, 6 and 7 go down quick with the grenade trick and 8 has the corner cheese trick to make him super easy so you should be good to go once you get past him.

Faster for speedruns. Key is gonna be the very best, like no one ever was.

My money is on it being the significantly less expensive version to own. Still gives the option for English text, also. Although, it would not surprise me in the least to see Key in the Super Metroid race at AGDQ 2018.
